Dose anyone have a crashed Seagate Hard Drive with the same type circuit board as shown in the pic sata 6 screw type.
Stuart (dsb) took his PC into one of Blenheim butcher PC repair shops and they stuffed his HDD with his FSX installed on, they broke the backing plate under the sata connection pins so if I can get another circuit bard that will fit this HDD I will be able to get it up and running again for him.

Thanks Ian as long as the six screws are in the same configuration as the one in the pic I should be able to get it up and running I have the special screw drive tip that works with these screws so it wont be to hard to change the circuit board if I can get hold of one.

Doug you need to ensure that the replacement controller board is from exactly the same model of hard drive, and has exactly the same firmware and same revision code, otherwise you are very likely to be unable to access the contents of the drive.

What is the hard drive size, I have some Seagates of different capacities, and they all seem to have different PCBs. There is a 160GB one which is very similar, but the plastic surrounds for the connectors are different. Can you give me the details on the label and I will have a look if any are the same.

Hi Bob yes it is a 160GB and the original plastic front piece was only covering just over half way across on the pin end I took another plastic end off another HDD to see if it would work but when they broke the plastic end plate they also bent some of the pins.

It is a 160GB ST3160812AS

If it is the same I only want the circuit board as this one has his Win XP x 64 plus his FSX all loaded on it.

Yes, that is the same number on mine, and it is a Barracuda 7200.9 with a firmware level of 3.BQK and a date code of 07281 (in very small print). If these numbers are the same or similar there is a good chance that the PCB will work, so if you PM an address to me I will send the whole thing to you. I will test the drive and format it, so at least you will be able to check that it all works before swapping the PCB.

The firmware is slightly different 3.AAD and the date code is 06292 be interesting to see if it will work with your PCB
