Hi, I love flying the Flight 1 ATR in FS2004. I fly most of the time in NZ or in Canada. My navdata came with the software and dates to 2004. The waypoints and other NZ data including approaches are quite rudimentary. Can anyone tell me whether purchasing an updated navigation database from navigraph will improve things for flying in New Zealand? I also fly the IFly 737 and its NZ data looks to be really good in comparison.

Hi there - I use Navigraph for ISG/Flight1/PMDG/Islander/Captain Sim etc. The yearly AIRAC cycle costs about NZD$35 per year - you receive an email announcing the new AIRAC cycle and you then download the updates you require which reduces your credit balance. You can download as many individual updates as you like as they charge per cycle not per download.

I'm a bit stingy though - so I spend $15 a year which gives me enough credits for 5 updates a year. I do this as sometimes there are only minor changes to the data so I like to pick and choose which ones I want (I'm in the industry and we receive a brief each cycle so I know if it will effect my simming!).

Its a really good service and is pretty accurate in terms of the data they provide. If your data is based in 2004 you will really notice the difference!

You might also like to take a look at Aerosoft's Navdata pro package. It uses real world LIDO nav data as used by Lufthansa. It may have more coverage for NZ than Navigraph. Navdatapro is a little more expensive though.
