I haven't used FSX in a while,( due to a computer malfunction a few months back,) this however is about to change as I have just ordered a new system which will arrive sometime within the next month.

It comes with a 500GB high speed hard drive and a 256GB SSD. Not being used to such high tech equipment i'm a bit confused as to how the system should be configured. Of course FSX will want to be in the SSD, but what about the operating system?

Any help much appreciated.

Howdy....Is the hard drive the new Seagate Hybrid with SSD 4gb Cache? If so i would pout FSX on 500GB with a partition to either run or back up other bits and pieces and keep FSX solely on a partition of its own

Love my SSD. Ive had a few computers over the years starting with the Ol Commodore 64. Dam it loads quick with SSD and I tend to run with alot of cr@p running in the background. SSD I would make your primary. I havent tried FSX on the SSD as well as Win, mine is on secondary drive. When I FDisk within the next few months I may try it out. If you have a good sized SSD, yeah put them both on it.

Yeah gidday,

I live in the sticks with no mains power so I use a laptop to keep the power consumption to a minimum.

I went with the ASUS ROG G75, I got them to bump it up with the Ivy Bridge i73820 and Nvida 670M. Not sure the exact specs on the SSD but apparently it's the latest generation.

Hate them myself Laptops that is. Im old and those touch pads just annoy the hell outta me.

Yep, i'm looking forward to a fresh install on whats considered the top of the line... for a brief moment in time anyway.

The touch pad doesn't worry me you get used to it, to the point where you actually prefer it.

Put FSX on an SSD Load times are heavily reduced. Windows on an SSD will load quicker as well but wont help FSX if its still on a regular drive.

Cheers Andrew, I initially googled it and found every single scenario possible which just confused me more.

So my conclusion is because I have the room on the SSD I wil put both on it. Apparently a SSD won't improve FPS only load time but it can reduce stutters as the textures while playing due to the extremely fast loading of them.
