NZFF

Hi all,

Today I got a 'C-Media CMI8738/C3DX' PCI soundcard off my mate. I installed it, booted the PC back up but have no sound.

The little yellow balloon popped up saying found new hardware 'Multimedia audio controller' but I have no driver CD or anything.

I downloaded one from driverguide.com, unzipped it but all it contains is this:


I went into Device Manger to try and fix it, clicked on the update driver menu and selected the unzipped folder which contained my downloaded driver for MS to search, but it finds nothing...


Any ideas on how to fix this please?

You should be able to "Add New hardware device" from the CP, and from there tell it to search in the driver folder, it should pick it up.

Update on this, I have now gone through this process and installed the driver, but get this error when it compleates:

My onboard soundcard is disabled by the way, and the one I am trying to make work is a PCI one. Whenever I try to play an audio file, I get an error saying there is a problem with my sound device...

Please could anyone help today, as I am eager to fly the new NZFF Saab 2000 from Queenstown to Welly asap!

have you uninstalled your onboard drivers?
try uninstalling the new ones, then click the magnifying glass on the computer (scan for hardware changes) so it will find it again.

on another note, please post whether you get a frame rate increase using dedicated sound...

i had this same problem with my wireless network card. Even though I had the driver CD, i couldnt install the drivers from the CD until i installed the hopeless utility that came with it, and it just couldnt find the drivers on the CD. So perhaps try finding some utility that runs with the sound card? I dunno, anything helps I guess...

Yep- done all that. Now it installs with out saying 'access denied' but says 'there was an error during installation, please reinstall drivers' so I think it may be a driver issue.

Does anyone else know where I can get the correct 'C-Media CMI8738/C3DX' files from anywhere else apart from driverguide.com ?

Ahhhh Andrew have you disabled the onboard sound device in BIOs tho, this you must do as disabling in System Manager does not actually do anything helpfull for on board devices the PC still thinks the onboard soundcard is there and it could be using up all available interrupts for your new sound card....

also if you double click on the multimedia audio controller in the device manager (where it has the yellow caution indicator) then it should give you some kind of explanation as to why it isnt working correctly.

Go to the manufactures website http://www.cmedia.com.tw/?q=en/driver , you shouldn't have to disable any onboard sound device as the PCI card will take priority on your system.

Ahhh sorry Kimz you are right you shouldent have to but the fact is if you dont turn it off in BIO's it screws drivers up.... just Google it you will see.
