Well I'v ordered a new PC, and have a few questions when it comes to installing FSX.

Here's what I'g got:

ASUS P8Z68-V/Gen3 Intel Z68 PCI-E 3.0
Intel Core i5 2500K Sandy Bridge 3.30GHz 6MB 95W
Corsair Hydro Series H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB DDR3-1600 CL9
Intel 320 Series 120GB 3GB/s 25nm SSD Retail Pack
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 32MB 6Gb/s SATA3
EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX580 Superclocked 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-E
Viewsonic VX2453mh-LED 23.6" 2ms HDMI LED Monitor
LG GH24NS70 24X DVD Writer SATA OEM
Corsair HX850 850W Modular Power Supply
Lian-Li PC-6 Aluminium Mid Tower Case (USB 3.0 Model)

Now I'v have seen people say that you dont want to install FSX in C: drive. Now is that if you have another HDD to install it on? Or can it be installed on the SSD seeing as that wold be my only other drive.

And when it comes to other games (CoD, BattleField, ArmA2 etc) is it ideal to install those on a diferent drive to C:?

If i need to, i may get another HDD, 500 gig or something like that. Well looking at prices, they are only about $40 apart

I would put the OS and smaller apps on the SSD and FSX and games on the 1TB drive. Usually keep all heavy apps and programs off the the main OS drive, speeds everything up.

Thats what I did. OpSys and things like Office on the SSD and Games etc on the secondary drive. It's a bit annoying having to keep changing the default path on installations but like you said keeps the OpSys drive clean.

My SSD died just before Christmas without any warning whatsoever - and with no way to recover the data on it

I have now replaced it with a 120GB Vertex3 SSD hoping to utilise its Sata3 (6GB) capability only to find out that my mobo has a cr@p Sata 3 controller - but that's another story! What I did was partition the SSD putting the OS (Win 7 x64) on one partition and FSX on the other. This still leaves both partitions with ample room for the inevitable expansion. No point in having that fast SSD and relegating FSX to a slower drive. In order to further conserve space on the SSD I moved all the Windows User folders (My Music, My Pics etc etc) to my "library" HDD - which is where I also keep all my FSX related add-on compressed files (aircraft, sceneries, repaints etc). Works for me

Total price $3 264.01
That includes it being built and bios setup, a Logitech G110 keyboard and G500 mouse, and delivery.
Have a look at the computer lounge, head to the forums and make a post with what your looking for, along with a price range and they will find something great for you. Even saved me about $150 from the quote RevoGamer gave me, I was very happy with it.

What sized partitions did you do for each? Last i checked my FSX file was about 60 gig. Im not sure how big Win 7 is, but would a 80gig/40gig work? Leaves me a bit of space for more add ons, but is that enough space for Win 7 without the user files (im guessing it is)

Also when you say your FSX related add oncompressed files, are thye just all your installers, and downloaded files for installing?

It was a roughly 50/50 split. FSX Acceleration bare install takes up 17.5 GB - My previous total FSX install ran to 60GB so I am just going to be a little more disciplined about what I install this time and remove things that become redundant. My C drive has 37.5 GB unused space. Yes; I was referring to the installers and downloaded files.

Yeah, I do have to admit there was a lot of extra aircraft/scenery that I never really used any more. I think on my fresh install of what I want, it would start off around 25 gig, maybe pushing 30. Ill start with a 50/50 split and go from there.
