This is why I DIY whenever possible...

if you've never done it before, try buying an old (working) second hand comp for like $50-100 and practice pulling it completely to bits and putting it back together...

its really not that difficult... I learnt how to assemble from scratch in about 15 minutes when I got my first job at a computer shop smile.gif

The hardest part is usually finding the right screws for mounting the motherboard, drives etc... coz the mobo manufacturers usually put about a thousand of them of various sizes in one bag dry.gif

I assume you mean XP... whats it doing? randomly falling over every X minutes?

If so, you might want to go get MemTest and see if the RAM is faulty...

Just to clarify:

1. You boot from CD
2. It does all the 'DOS'-based bluescreen stuff where you select a partition to install to, format it and then it copies the files over
3. Then it restarts <--- Does it crash here???
4. Then it actually gets to the windows-like installation part (asks for CD-key etc)
5. Then it restarts <--- or does it crash here???
6. Boots into Windows

is it dying at step 3 or 5?
