Invisible brick wall out of Auckland

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby BigBird » Tue Nov 25, 2008 10:20 am

Not sure what's going on and it's a problem that has only developed recently...

When flying out of Auckland using runway 5R and if staying on runway heading, not long into the flight my aircraft crashes. It's doing this on all aircraft and is not a 'stress' crash and defintely not a crash into the ground as I'm above 1,000ft AGL at this stage. If I change course to the north of south or if I use runway 23L there is no issue.

I also crashed into this invisible brick wall while flying in the vicinity of Waiheke Island last night.

Any ideas on what may be happening and/or how to remedy this?

Similar problem also happens if I try landing at New Plymouth.

You want delete all saved flights , if you have a special log book , empty your recycle bin before doing so , you might be able to reinstate / restore at a later time .

Okay, I'll give that a go. I'm just using the standard FSX log book. Cheers

Do you have Kelvin Richardson's Ardmore installed? I'm wondering if this is related to the giant seagulls...

No, I don't have that installed. I'm just running Auckland 2005. Haven't noticed any giant seagulls laugh.gif

Hmm, I wouldn't have thought that Auckland 2005 would be very compatible with FSX -- I suspect that you'd need to turn off crash detection to use any pre-FS2004 scenery.

Doooh, that's what I'm running in FS9! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Trying to think which scenery it is that I'm running on FSX (on my work computer at the mo, laptop is at home)

I got so cheesed off with "the monster seagulls from hell" around AKL that I renamed the"animals" effects file - and removed the reference to it in dll.xml. I doubled my framerate instantly! I could work out the instructions for you if you like. I'm proud to say that I thought of it all on my own!

I quite enjoy buzzing scenery at ludicrously unsafe altitudes and speeds, so I always have crash detection turned off - possibly saving myself heaps of scenery/system crashes along the way.

I've had Rob's Auckland City (tweaked for FSX) running for ages now. Though reluctant to work properly at first (for an as yet unknown reason) it's settled down well and has hardly missed a beat. I saw FSX running over AKL in a store once and was *horrified* to see what the default Auckland looks like. I'm always keen to slip in a smarmy plug for Rob's scenery ... because it's GOOD ... so grab it while you can. He needs the money to work on the full-blown FSX version biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Oh the things I do to have someone do some half decent Whenuapai scenery! winkyy.gif

Deleted all my save flights and still had the same probs. Have turned crash detection off which sort of defeats the purpose of realistic simulated flights, but it will just have to do for now.

What are the tweaks you use with Robins Real NZ Auckland for FSX, I haven't tried it with FSX as I didn't think it would be compatible.

Nothing much (and easy to install). Rob created a couple of excludes BGL files. You can find them on the Godzone site (best get them from there as they'll be the most recent). I still have a problem with duplicate roads occuring here and there (under the Harbour Bridge) - which is because of a topo file (I think) and hard to remove. For AKL based screenshots around the CBD, I just temporarily disable the landclass. Do a search on NZFF for that one, as Rob explained it for me. It's a small price to pay though, as it's still great looking scenery and I kind of got used to having it in FS9. My upgrade to FSX felt very much like a downgrade without Rob's AKL.

Around Auckland, I have Ardmore, Coromandel (and NZNE I think) all running quite happily in FSX.

I have the exact same problem, coming into land runway 23L

I do have "Auckland Boats" installed. I'll try removing that and trying again

Not sure where this feature comes from - default FSX or Rob's Auckland City - but on my system there's a stonking great bridge on the approach to 23L that I have to leap frog over. Maybe there's some hidden object around there that causes problems?

I'll try a few approaches with crash detection on to see what happens.

If your running Robin Corn's Real NZ Auckland City with Auckland Airports 2005 as well, you WILL get the duplicate roads and harbour bridge.
The duplicates are contained in the Auckland 2005 scenery.
If you want to remove the duplicates, go look for "Auckland Airports for Real NZ Auckland City" by Rob Diebold.
Its all the exact same airports from the 2005 version, but he's stripped out all the useless extras like the duplicate downtown buildings, roads, harbour bridge, and all the static aircraft at NZAA as well, for those that use RealNZ Auckland City in FS9.

I'm on FSX, Lawrie, so I'm not using any other AKL scenery other than Robin's Auckland City (with his excludes file). Sadly I can't run AKL Airports 2005 in FSX - I really miss my old Whenuapai! sad.gif Robin said that that dupe road comes from the NZTopo file, which I can't help but run - and, as roads aren't objects as such, can't easily be excluded. Not that I know anything about the technicalities of all this winkyy.gif

I'm still waiting for the day when you move over to FSX laugh.gif
