MS2024 SU6

Has anyone else fired up the sim to find that SU6 is already installed? Really weird as I have not had this before. Normally I like to prepare things before a major update but, I didn't get the opportunity this time. How many GB is the update?

Normally/usually I get an update dialog box - but not this time. It's hard to know (without checking the version number) whether it installed at all. A bit of a bummer if you want to back up profiles etc. beforehand.

Windows Store-bought apps will update automatically. Normally my sim doesn't get a chance as I load the sim constantly, so it updates then.

Yes - I think I'm mixing up SIM updates with WORLD updates (which I think are the optional ones, hence the dialog box) <??>

It would be nice to be forewarned so that the community folder and profiles can be backed up as well as deleting varies caches etc.

I've never backed anything up, and never had an issue, apart from those faulty updates which couldn't have been rescued by any backup. Although these issues are almost always beta updates, rather than SU updates.

A lot of the updates are now cloud-based, so you don't seem to see the update done.

I saw a little update done via Steam when I started up MSFS 2024, but the MB downloaded weren't much.

I did rename the Community Folder before I started up Steam, then rebooted, then renamed the Community Folder back. No Issues at all.

PS Am I seeing things, or are the crispness of the graphics greatly improved, especially in the cockpit? It's really noticeable.

I think I did the Community Folder dance once - ages ago - and never since. But what I *do* do is use Addons Linker to disable all my custom addons first. There's usually a heap of stuff that installs directly into my Community Folder, but that's never given me grief.

As regards clarity - I think maybe some caches somehow got cleared/refreshed along the way. I'm not seeing any noticeable improvement other than better smoothness overall.

MSFS 2024 is a stunning looking sim (once you're in the cockpit) - I just wish they'd get their act together and fix the bonkers GUI and the CTDs.
