MSFS2020 and Win 11 frustration

Postby dbcunnz » Sat Nov 15, 2025 4:03 pm

I updated my PC a couple of months ago.
Specs of new updated PC
Windows: Win 11 Pro 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 12-Core Processor
Ram: Kingston DDR5-4800 (2400 MHz) 65536 MBytes
MB: Asus ProArt X870E-CREATOR WIFI (AM5)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080
Storage: 1-Seagate BarraCuda 1TB SSD
2-4TB SSD
2-KINGSTON SNV3S1000G (SSD)
2-Crucial 1TB (SSD)
1- Crusial 500GB (SSD)
1- Seagate Expansion Desk 5TB (SSD)
I hadn't fired up my MSFS2020 since the PC update until last week and have had a very frustrating week uninstalling and reinstalling 3 times and working through dozens of suggested fixes from Xbox users but it is still not working.
Microsoft have not been helpful with this all they say is it is an Xbox problem and to check Xbox for a fix for it.
It loads up to the install updates and that's as far as it gets it will install about 4 or 5% then stop drop back to about 3% and load up the 5% again before dropping again to 3% it keeps doing this over and over until I close it.
It has also given me the Error 0X800705b4 a couple of times and also had the Error 0X8007023e.
Things that I think could be causing the problem is that my MSFS2020 is on an old Microsoft account which I only use now for installing the MSFS2020 as the other account doesn't pick my MSFS2020 up.
My Win 11 is activated digitally to my other Microsoft account.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be most welcome.

Very sad no comments or suggestions on this fix yet.
Maybe I will just just uninstall again and give up on flightsimming altogether I think I am getting to old to be flying although flying in the open cockpit of the good old Tiger Moth with all that wind rushing around me brings me right back to my younger days

I didn't reply, (and suspect everyone else too) because there are many site-specific possibilities.
Everything points to a Windows Activation issue, exacerbated by mismatched MS accounts.
You should get everything on the same page: get your PC on the same MS Account, and so on.
The web is full of advice, for what it's worth e.g.
How do I fix a corrupted Microsoft Store?
Run the troubleshooter: Select the Start button, and then select Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, and then from the list select Windows Store apps > Run the troubleshooter.
And:
Remove external hardware. Unplug any nonessential hardware devices. ...
Update Windows. ...
Uninstall non-Microsoft antivirus software. ...
Uninstall nonessential software. ...
Free up disk space.

I mean, if all else fails, your local PC shop coud reinstall everything for you.

Doug, you're a brave man...until last week I had no direct contact with Win 11. There were so many traps and pitfalls set up by Seattle in the setup I was reminded of an incident when setting up Tarquin a couple of years ago. At that time, I accepted an offer of free access to OneDrive, because I could see a use for that in backing up my whole network. Everything then ground to a halt. On investigating, I found that all the free space in my storage (about 8TB) had been taken as a temporary store prior to transfer to OneDrive. I wasn't warned of that in any way. Spent a whole day sorting it out.
Might be worth checking that your available storage is still free space. Best I can do, mate. It is a Win 11 created problem. and has been for some time. I am sure you Googled those error messages, as I just did. Shift+F10 should get you a Command Prompt, and it seems we can still use sfc from there.

Hello Doug, I have just updated my computer and re purchased MSFS2020 ( had 2024 version but it was so hard to get going with my home cockpit bindings etc. I sent it back and got a refund!!)

Any way downloaded 2020 and fired itup, it went 20% into starting - got to world updates and stopped back to pre start screen. I did a bit of research (well lots actually) and believed it came down to bad drivers for my Nvidia RTX5070ti card. I thought, i'll try backdating the drivers further and further back from the latest 581.??. reinstall clean each time. Finally... got version 560,xx. reinstall clean and TA DAH, hey presto - Faultless start up.

It may work for you something to do with NVIDIA software. PM me if you like. Cheers Les

Dbcunnz,

Sorry to hear about your problems with MS2020. I would have helped you but I am still using FSX and have ZERO experience with MS2020 or MS2024

When you see specific error message number, why not use Google to see what results say about the error messages and see if there are solutions for the error messages??

Another suggestion is to join any virtual airline that has extremely active community forum and see if they can help you.

Also maybe join Avsim and SOH forums to see if they can help you?

Regards,
