Disable rain/snow in FSX

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Hi guys,

I've been looking through the posts here and avsim/flightsim but couldn't find the actual answer.

I'd like to "disable" the horrible rain/snow visual effects in FSX. The main reasons being: they look terrible and they cost me 4-5 FPS... Not sure which files to edit or remove, and if that would cause a crash in FSX. As far as I know there are no real replacements effects available to date. I know the simple solution is to fly in nice weather, but I use OPUS and fly in real weather at all times. I'm also aware of a DX10 fix, but I never made the move to DX10 risking the perfectly stable DX9 performance and starting the tweaking all over again...I don't mind the wet look on the runway (actually that looks ok), but these "falling rays of light" really break the immersion for me.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks
Dan

I know this post is quite old but I was looking for the same thing as you - in regards to disabling the rain - this worked for me:
