i know that to have ATC on your headset you either need two sound cards or a mobo sound and a card. but is it also true that you can use a usb headset to get ATC on the headset and aircraft sounds on the speakers? if so then this might be a very good option

Im not sure how to do it with USB on MSFS, but with squakbox- Just select the incoming sound through headset, and in Flight Simulator, engine sound through speakers.

It's an FSX-only thing - head on over to SimPilotto get the full story.

thanks for the replies. i tried fiddling around with the sound settings and it does have two options for the hardware to play engine/environment and for voice. basically, the question is, will a usb headset be picked up a seperate device? i assume so as it wont be plugged into the mobo (i dont have a sound card either).

EDIT: the link pretty much said yes, usb will work. can anyone confirm using two sound devices?

I have had aircraft noise on speakers, and ATC through headset using onboard sound and a pci sound card...

This was using FS9

USB headset for ATC and standard speakers for other sounds works for me in FSX using the SimPilot link Charl suggested above. I have been doing this for a few months now!

The key is the voice channel setup. Get that wrong and normal sounds (movies etc) will play through the headset which may not be what you expected.

Ah!
I tried and failed.
What's your configuration for that?

Actually I think I may be mistaken... I cannot find any setting in FS9 that lets you specify the sound device to use... so either:

a. I was using FS9 and I had aircraft noise through speakers, and had TeamSpeak[1] running through headset

and/or

b. I was using FSX... my bad! :whoops:

To be honest, I think a. and b. are both true

[1] TS lets you choose your input and output devices

Trying the same thing.

have Bluetooth and an Audigy card both work.
Using TEamspak and FS9
I setup TS to use the BT earpiece, but that makes ALL sounds come thru it. DAMN!! I had it once, but cant remember how! GRRRR

Help me........

SOLVED

Was dead easy, actually.

1. Open Teamspeak (TS)
2. open TS settings and navigate to OPTIONS and choose your secondary sound driver.
In my case, a bluetooth sound driver.
3. test TS in the usual way.

5. open Windows control panel > sound and audio devices
6. choose your MAIN audio drive or card. in MY case, it is the Audigy card.
7. MAKE sure that the check box that "use only default devices" is selected.

DONE!!!

This will enable aircraft sounds, ATC via FS to come thru the speaker setup.
Also all WINDOWS default noises like error peeps will come thru the speakers.

BUT TS will be piped directly to you ear, and if you use the correct microphone, will also limit feedback.
As far as i can determine, there is NO WAY that you can seperate out MSFS ATC speech from flightsim9 general sounds. BUGGER

This SHOULD/will apply to any other situation that is similar, like skwarkbox
Hope that helps.

Unfortunately you are correct... you can only do that in FSX...
