ATI-Radeon X-800 Problem

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

A few days ago my 256mb nVidea FX6800GT decided to fry itself !! I raped an old 128mb nVidea FX5200 out of my wifes machine to get mine going again, but its definately not up to the task of running my Flightsim.
A good friend gave me a 256mb ATI-Radeon X-800 GTO , and i duly fitted the card, and installed the latest set of ATI Catalyst drivers from the current NZ PC World magazine DVD disc, and also the Microsoft dotnet framework ver 2.0.50.... which the ATI installer said was required. (i was running an older version of the .netframework). Well the card actually works, as in i have my monitor displaying things again, but everytime i start the computer, as it arrives at the desktop, i get this message............

'MOM.implentation Version=2.0.2827.38662, Culture=neutral, PublicKey Token=90a9c70f846762e'
or one of its depenencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Also, i cannot access any of the ATI utilites in the start menu, i get the same message but starting with 'CLI.implementation 2827-38666............ instead of the words 'MOM.implementation'.

The WORST thing of all, Flightsim WONT even start now, after installing this lot. The splash screen starts, sits there for a little while, then dissapears, and back to the desktop.

Ive never had an ATI card before, allways been an nVidea man, and im rather lost on this one. Never had trouble after changing a video card before. Anyone got any ideas.
This is REALLY frustrating the hell out of me.............................
I cant get FS going, and im suffering from withdrawal symptoms........................

I was wondering, if i could get my hands on the original install disc for an X-800 card, if this my be of use to me, as maybe im missing some part of the install software for the card.............

Running (or trying to) FS-9, in Windows XP SP-2, on AMD Athlon XP3400+, 2gb DDR-400RAM

Mate sounds like a sick card, or you have installed the wrong drivers, restart the PC is safe mode and uninstall the ATI drivers and anything relevent to this installation, then download the latest driver for your card, not the Catalyst software just the display driver from www.ati.com, post back here if you still have problems.

Also, make sure you have completely uninstalled the Nvidia drivers too!
And look in fs.cfg for any references to Nvidia and comment them out for insurance.

All old nVidea drivers were un-installed before i began the install of the ATI stuff.
I un-instaled the ms .net framework 2.0, and unistalled the latest ATI driverset i had.
Naki gave me a Genuine ATI install disc for an X-800, and i installed the graphics driverset only (no Catalyst software), and also the older ms .net framework 1.1 that was on the disc (i was running 1.1 before), and all is GOOD again !! :)
The driverset is an older one from early 2006, but it works fine.
Thanks for the disc Paul !
