Frame rates

Just wondering what sort of frame rates I should expect from my system.
Flying into Auckland (using Auckland 2005 scenery) in most machines I seem to get down to about 8 or 9 FPS and worse if in VC with some very definite stutters on the flare. I certainly dont have the sliders maxed out at all and I do not run AI. I get a little better at default airfields but not that much. I flew into LAX (in the PMDG 747 VC mode) using the default FS9 scenery and I suffered really low frame rates that made landing difficult. The best I ever seem to get is just under 20 although it is limited to 20 FPS.
I am running.

CPU AMD 2700 (The weak link)
RAM 2 GB
VID ATI X800 256 MB DDR3 AGP
HD Western Digital 120 GB IDE 7200 RPM

Any help would be appreciated.

Just did a flight from YBBN to NZAA yesterday in the PMDG 747 and the frames rates dropped to 5 at one point in VC mode. I had active sky running and the scenery was Auckland 2005 with Ground environment pro. Not sure if the later has any effect. I can never recall it being it as bad as this before. One dumb thing I didn't do when I reloaded FS9, after my hard drive crash was, was to do the FS9 update before I added my add ons. Would this be likely to be the cause....I hope not because I am sure I can guess what the remedy is going to be...doh.

Auckland 2005 is a notorious frame hog, that may account for some of your problems. 9.1 may help improve things, but I didn't notice a huge difference after I updated FS2004 to 9.1.

Also, your AGP card might be restricting things a little bit, as the bandwidth AGP provides is considerably less than PCIe. :)

low frame rate could be coursed by many things, your cpu and video card are a little light on the power by todays standards but I would still expect more than 5-10 FPS.

I don't run Active Sky my self so can not comment on how it effects frame rate, but any extra program you have running will effect performance what to you have in your task bar and can I ask what anti virus you use as some can really slow down a computer.

Hope this is useful

Yes I may have to ditch Auckland 2005 although to be honest some other default airports are not much better. The CPU is definately on the light side however I would have thought that the graphics card would have been able to do better than that as it is one of the top end AGP cards.
On the task bar I have running:
Messenger
Phone tray (a small program to alert me to incoming calls..I have 256Kb sat download and dial up upload ..thanks Telecom :( )
Spybot resident
Satelite driver card
AVG antivirus

Thanks.

Those programs shouldn't effect things to much, I do agree that I would expect more from you system but with that being said I can drop down to 15FPS in bad weather with mine an AMD 4400 x2 2GB Ram and a 7900GT 256Mb video, normaly FPS is solid at a limited 30FPS.

Hi,

i have been running FS9, Active Sky 6.5 and other add ons on my old pc, i would get about 10-20fps in default airports with full traffic. without active sky i would get less FPS. active sky is one of the best programs i have run, and improved my FPS alot. my old comp was a pentium 2.4 celeron with 1 gb ram, and a 128 ati 9250 agp card, so ut was not a flash one.

my new computer that i find out about tomorrow is as follows, Acer M5630 desktop, Core 2 duo 2.4g e4500, 2gb ddr2 667 ram, ATI radeon hd 2400 256mb, dvd-rw hd-dvd blu-ray dvd rom, wireless keyboard and mouse, and windows vista premiun, 19" acer lcd. heres hoping it falls into place, should run fs9 well.

i used to get rid of the anti virus and messenger and anything else i didn't need when flying. it seemed to help abit, i could never run auckland 2005 at anything more than 2-10FPS, didn't matter what i did
