Hi All ,
Ok here goes another topic about FSX and before you laugh ... I have tryed this Sim 3 times and still dont believe Im getting the best out it ! I have currently un-installed it as its depressing me ...lol ok here are my puter specs ....

Intel core 2 Duo 2.1 currently OC'ed to 2.4
Asus P5LD2 MB
3Gig Pc 3200 667 dual Channel Ram
Asus 7600 GT GFX OC'ed { latest Nivida GFX Drivers}
Sata 120Gig HHD
5.1 Sound System
Windows XP Home with SP 2

My Question to everyone is what sort of performance should I be expecting ? I have tried FSX with SP1 installed as well ...... now as a comparrison I Have a friend running a simular System { same CPU GFX Card etc } he is running Vista and he is getting better Performance than me ....I would also love to know other systems that people here are runnign for FSX and what sort of "Tweeks" and performance they are getting .Im sorry if this has been bought up before .Im also thinking that there are always versions of FS that can be more trouble than they are worth { IE versions to be skipped ... FS2000 etc } could I be right in saying this might be one of them ...... yes I understand new technology is at play here in terms of re-writing the programming etc ... our hey am I just being picky ?

thanks guys for your time .
Cheers

What would you define as acceptable performance? Do you prefer 'eye candy' or frames? Do you do most of your flying into/out of large internation airports or smaller airfields?

What settings are you using currently? The system specs you listed should return good results......Its well known that turning down autogen is one of the first steps for performance. Install the service packs too and defrag your drive if you havent already.

Hi Timmo ,

My Definition of good performance is around 25FPS dropping only slightly for built up areas { am I being too hard here ? } as for eye candy/FPS wouldnt we all like the best of both worlds ...hahha I dont really lean to one side on those fronts would just like to get the best possible results that my machine can deliver ,Yes I do most of my flying in and out of big airports { airliner routes etc } sorry I cant remember what settings a I had { have un-installed it } I did have the SP install as well .I might have to give this another go then and do some more research , Can I ask what settings and machine you might be running for FSX and what sort of results you are getting . My Biggest fear is that Vista is the key here .

Cheers

I'm sorry to say Vista makes no difference in comparison with XP in my opinion, if anything Vista gives you more hastles from my experience so far.

Hmmmm, I dodged upgrading to Vista until 2 weeks ago and then decided to take the plunge with 64 bit version. I have to say I am really pleasently surprised with the ease of install etc.

Yes, the creative sound card was a pig to get going but that was really the only issue. I find the performance certainly equal to Windows XP and of course Vista gives you the opportunity
to up your RAM and is 'apparently' well placed to take advantage of the the 2 new service packs due out for both FSX and Vista. I am actually growing to like this O/S quite fast!

just my 2 cents worth.

sadly vista is still non compat with autodesk ie 3dmax so the designers of the world are still staying with XP until they sort out this boggy op system ,you think that they would have made it sweet seeing that most games are made with it and so many people out there use it ,vista is still full of holes in my opinion and there is now way im going to fork out money for software that is just half of what they made it out to be ,,money money money ,thats all youll be giving them and all you get back is a car with one wheel and false dreams ..
dx10 will that was last years promise ,stable yeah maybe ..new well thats your headaches from now on dry.gif thanks MS youve taken ppls money again

I could, but I think there's a limit to the length of a single post.
Here's a ramble which may or may not be of benefit to you...
