You may know I was going to buy a new psu. Well I have a new plan which will see me with a faster computer, for less money...

To make up for the cost, I will sell my Pentium D, my mobo and a stick of RAM (3072mb i is a bit overkill anyway)

The CPU and motherboard are both great overclockers (which would also go well with my new CPU cooler recently purchased) (I will probably overclock this over 2.5Ghz) , and the motherboard has SLI which would be futureproofing for my next projects.

In this benchmark, we see the Core2Duo running stock speeds totally kills the Pentium D, aswell as in many of the other benchmarks.

Whatsmore, the PSU calculator told me that with this, I would only need 291W Power supply, which means I wouldnt have to upgrade my 400W.

but that's a 6400, you're getting a 4300 which from this benchmark suggests it's only 20% faster than a Pentium D 945? OK, sure you'll be overclocking it, but seems like a small jump to me.

up to you, i'd suggest it's probably worth waiting a bit longer to get a decent upgrade, rather than getting a peacemeal upgrade every year.

You may know that I love to overclock things. THe 4300 fills this position.

The Pentium D 930 however, although it can push nearly 4Ghz (While reaching the 80's in temperature apparently), it is still as slow as hell whereas the Core2Duo actually does stuff when its overclocked. Considering it will cost me no money, I see it as a worthy venture.

im with zol ,get a big psu 550+ dont overclock much at all unless you have money to replace ..
also all theses mods you are planning on doing are they going to be supported by vista

I dont see anything to loose
a- I will be adding more support for vista, the Asus board have a Nforce chipset which actually has RAID drivers, unlike Gigabytes
b- The new mobo will have SLI which is futureproffing
c- My current mobo doesnt even support SLI or a Core 2 Duo. I also hate other features of my mobo which cannot be changed
d-It is not going to cost any money, and I will gain performance

well id say go for it then,,
as u say you cant lose if you are not spending anything extra and are getting a performance boost..but id still want to get a psu that is 550 or more for futureproffing hardware

Well firstly, FSX doesn't support SLI, so it's not futureproofing for flight sims. And secondly you're assuming that you'll be able to sell your memory, CPU and processor for more than $300, which I think is optimistic.
And if you're overclocking, you really should have a better quality PSU.

Well Im sorry guys, but I went against everyones advice, and went ahead and brought it
It came yesterday, and I installed it and got it running now.

As a comparison:
Superpi to work out to 1million dp too:
On my Pentium D overclocked to 3.6Ghz 43seconds
On my stock 1.8Ghz Core 2 Duo 34 seconds
