INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR

This morning I downloaded and installed the newest Zone Alarm (zapSetup_70_337_000_en.exe), and once it compleated installing, it asked me to restart my computer, which I did.

Then, when booting back up, I didn't make it back to my desktop, but instead got a Blue Screen of Death up saying "INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR" and "check to make sure any new hardware/software is properly installed".

I started in safe mode, and disabled ZA from launching at start up, rebooted my PC but got the BSOD again. Now I have recently installed a new graphics card, a GeForce 6600GT on wednesday, and I only have a 300w power supply unit which I was warned may be too little for my new card- yet it was been working alright for the last three days so I am not sure what to think??

Right now I am posting off my Dad's PC- any help would be much appeciated, thanks!

Hi Mate

How old is this PSU, and how may HDD & Optical drives do you have hanging off of this PC and how many USB devices do you have?
May also be a coincedence that your PSU may have spat the dummy as well.

Try unplugging the 6600GT from the PSU, it will still work, it just wont run full speed. See if the comp starts up OK.

If it does, then it looks like the card is going to be a no-go unless you get a higher-rated PSU.

If that doesnt work, try replacing with your old graphics card and see if that works. If the old card works, then the new card is very unlikely to be a good idea without a new PSU.

If its still not going, then maybe the PSU has gone a bit mental... you might want to have a look in the BIOS, and see if you can see what the voltages are (usually in PC Health settings)... make sure that the +5V, -5V and +12V rails are actually at or near the stated value (eg. +12V is usually anything from +11.98 to +12.05 etc.)

If you get a +5V at something like +4.2 or something, then the PSU may be the cause.

did you try uninstalling zonealarm? If it wont uninstall in safe mode, delete the install folder

Well I didn't get a chance to fiddle around with the internal compenents as I had to go to work this arvo, but when I got home, I started up, selected "use last settings that work" and it all ran fine. Tried FS, runs ok with no BSOD.

I switched off for about half and hour, returned, turned on the PC- it booted up as normal and so far so good.

If anything happens tomorrow, I'll give a try to your suggestions, but right now I'm really hoping I wont have to Thanks for the help everyone!

Nothing to do with Zonealarm its your power supply and the 6600GT graphics card.

The symptoms you describe elsewhere point towards the Graphics Card being the cause of your problems.

looks like my card and your mobo + PSU are not going to play nicely
