I'm a little worried

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Over the last few weeks I have been feeling a little worried about my sim.

It all started when I installed a Grumman AA-1 and when I selected it from the aircraft menu, I got a message saying something like 'some elements of this aircraft are not compatbale with fs2004, would you like to disable them' ... I clicked 'yes' and proceeded to click 'fly' to start my flight but it wont get to 100% loading of the flight before freezing up and giving me an error message saying FS9 has needed to close.

I removed the aircraft and all it's files but for a few more flight attempts after this, my loading bar got about half way then the Blue Screen of Death came up several times.

I defragged my harddrive and everything worked fine for about 2 weeks. Then, I left my sim alone for about 5 days and the other day I loaded up and I got the B.S.D again while loading my default flight (ZK-CIT parked up at Timaru, real time, real weather static). I changed my default flight to the original Seattle default flight included with FS2004 and I managed to make flights both today and yesterday fine...

Then this evening, while on loading a flight at Timaru, my whole computer froze at 55%. I restarted, defragged and everything was fine and I did a good few circuits, landed and turned off the sim. I was loading up just now for a flight in the Harvard, but when I hit the 'Fly' button on the main select a flight screen, my computer froze and I had to restart.

I have not added much new addons in this time- only Mike Stones F111, and Jenks RNZAF paints for the FSDS3 HS.780, so I am really confused as to why this is happening. When the sim does run, it runs fine, no difference in performance or anything. Can anyone help me out please?

Perhaps its a scenery error, maby play around with the scenery list or something..

So it doesn't crash whilest flying? Just loading up.. this has happend to me in the past with a 767 panel with reasonably complex gauges one day it just started playing up, the same day I installed varios scenery add-ons...

Perhaps a reinstall, if most of yoru addons have jsut been manualy placed (not by a installer or somethign) then reinstalling wouldn't be much hassel, compared to the hassel of a dodgy sim :(

hope you get it sorted soon

Hmmm, having said all this, I just loaded up fine without a problem.

I have no idea what my sim is up to, and Jimmy, I havn't installed any new scenery in ages, so I will try and advoid a full reinstall if at all possible.

Brennan, you can find the F111 at www.pmstone.com (model) and the RAAF livery at: http://www.gjsmith.net/Textures/f111.htm

Andrew I suggest you try renaming your FS(.cfg file and let FS2004 rebuild it.

Do you get wierd errors or system crashes or BSOD's when doing anything other than FS?

If so, it may be an indicator that a piece of hardware is faulty. Most likely HDD, RAM or CPU.

Also, what is the ambient temp like? Its been quite warm in AKL recently with all the sunny weather, and its possible the comp may be overheating.

If the crashes/BSODs are exclusive to FS, then it sounds like something has got corrupted somewhere.

seriosly I sugest you do a reinstall, if its an ongoing problem finding the solution could really be quite difficult, if rewriteing the cfg doesn't work jsut do a reinstall, back up all the fodler in your fs folder then just copy them back once installing fs9 and 9.1....... then youd know for sure if its fs or your pc...
