VLC and Real NZ airports kmz for Google Earth

Information and support relating to this forthcoming New Zealand Vector Land Class addon.

I'm not sure if anyone else has done this already for the VLC and Real NZ airports and specific scenery areas but after having a good look around the forums I wasn't able to find anything.

A lot of my flying is touring around, seeing what there is to see. I therefore decided it would be useful to have a map of all the enhanced VLC and Real NZ airfields (plus a few others that seem to work well with the scenery) to plan my touring flights to cover as much as possible of the country. I also use PlanG as a both a flight planning tool and moving map as I haven't been able to find any free regional charts for New Zealand to use in other moving map software. The topo maps in Google maps used in PlanG are pretty good anyway. PlanG has a feature to use kml/kmz files provided these are available at a web address so you can easily use whatever webspace is available to you if you'd like to see the airfields in a moving map. If anyone finds the file of use it could also be hosted at NZFF with the agreement of the admins.

The kmz is probably missing a lot of the other freeware airports and airfields which work well with VLC so if anyone is interested and can advise what might be added please let me know! The same goes for any mistakes I may have made...

There is a map which I made with the FSX scenery areas in a Google maps mashup under the scenery sub-forum- This is a little out of date but lists the airfields at the time of creation and their link to the Avsim file (which is now also probably out of date post Avsim hack)- I also digitised and added the airspace boundaries as well.

When I get a chance I'll download and look at yours and (hopefully) will be able to spend a bit of time updating the NZFF map as well smile.gif

Ian, a printable map would be useful. You can print from PlanG, the interface is Google maps so you can view and print at any zoom level you like. A set of proper charts in electronic format would be even better though!

Timmo, it was your scenery map that I found first when I was exploring what FSX scenery was available. This gave me the idea of making my own as PlanG uses the same Google maps interface and could 'import' GE location files. PlanG also puts in airspace boundaries etc, presumably from info in FSX.

If you haven't come across PlanG before it really is a superb tool for FSX and its free.

I was to get out to the airport and buy actual VFR low level flight maps , be handy for all . Be worth looking into putting to a PDF format but you cannot place a compass on to them .
