There's just a few days before your patch download link will expire, so if you haven't downloaded the update, you should get onto it this week. If you do go past the expiry date, you will need to request that the link is reactivated.

Very soon the first Airfield Pack will be released, which really requires the patch installed to work properly.

Will the airfield pack be an addon to VLC or will we have to pay for it?

Just a quick explanation of what to expect initially:
The upcoming release is called VLC Libraries, which is the beginnings of a set of local New Zealand objects which can be used to build NZ scenery. The libraries are specifically for VLC, and will be free.

The VLC Libraries installer will also include a number of South Island airfield updates, the first Airfield Pack, as promised to fix location issues in VLC. (Since VLC is more accurate than the default, and a lot of default airfields are not accurately placed, they need to be fixed for use with VLC.)

Some of these will include the library objects, but this is just the start of the project -- the libraries will grow over time, and there are a lot of objects to come. A couple of airfields include a few custom buildings as well, but not a lot at the moment.

Developers can use the library objects in their VLC-related scenery if they wish. There will be a kind of 'SDK' to help here.

There are also a couple of separate releases which will go out at the same time -- VLC/Godzone Ashburton, and VLC/Godzone Kaikoura, which are a bit more customised, so are a bit big to include in the Airfield Pack release. These are free as well. They use a few VLC library objects, but don't require them. Kaikoura is an update of the old Godzone Kaikoura for FS2004, and Ashburton shows what you can expect from customised airfields in the future.

Following that, there will be a North Island pack (Tim's work) and then I'll need to concentrate on a payware release to pay some bills. But work will continue on the library, and hopefully a few other developers will start releasing VLC-related airfields.

EDIT: Oops, forgot to mention that there will also (very shortly) be a couple of patches to fix niggly issues with Real NZ stuff to make it work better with VLC, such as Paraparaumu's elevation. There will also be a VLC-specific version of Paraparaumu for those who are starting out with VLC.

And nearly everythings FREE aswell! man we are spoilt
Can't wait, those screenshots showing the upcoming scenery on the VLC website looks awesome.

Keep us updated smile.gif

P.s what happened to that thing about a Jaggyroad film showing VLC? I reckon that would give a huge boost to VLC sales, they are known everywhere.

Cheers,
Jimmy

It's still coming, not too sure when, I suspect it got a bit delayed over the holiday period.

How do you check what version you're running? I'm pretty sure mine is the latest but I just want to double check.
Cheers!

You could look at Control Panel: Add/Remove Programs -- it should list the version number there.

Yep unfortunately Cody from Jaggyroad has had some bad luck with hardware failure plus the holiday period and family commitments has seen the delivery date pushed back. The good news is he has quit his 'day job' to focus on film editing work so the video, hopefully, should be available soon.

Im going to be in and out of contact for the next month or two as I'm overseas but I hope that when it is sent through I can distribute it fairly easily smile.gif
