Yes I can imagine that is the case as unless an add on (especially aircraft) are not native FSX then they are certainly lack lustre. Oddly enough though the push to FSX is mainly coming from the developers as in "if we build it they will (have to) come". I know of quite a few folk who have tried it (me included) and gone back to FS9 at least for the time being. Apart from the performance issue some things just dont look natural in FSX...too shiny and plastic looking at times and the there seems something wrong with ground shadows when I view some of the sceenshots. The big improvement I see is in the aircraft interiors. Some of the 2D and VC panels are just incredible. I think what will sway me to try FSX again is this VLC scenery.

Rob did you ever try the Sinclair ZX81?......a beast. 1 Kb of onboard RAM with an external plug in module of 16 Kb. All programmed in Basic language and if you managed to type out a huge program (and not save it to you common garden cassette recorder) and then accidentally touch the ext RAM ....poooff... it all disappeared.
Not only did I learn a little Visual Basic computer language I also learn t a whole new vocabulary of expletives!

Hi there, if you have not moved to FSX all ready then when you do you will finally realise what you have being missing out on. And you will probably need a new computor to realise this. Computors are dirt cheap now for the power they put out, there has never being a better time to upgrade and you wont have to spend a fortune to get something that will run FSX well.
I disagree with what you said about FSX not looking "Natural". The newer payware aircraft look 100 times more realistic than that of FS9. Just look at the new carenado paintjobs, They are fabulaous. And yes, a good paint job is extremely shiney, even in real life.

Is orbx NZ really going to get 20m mesh?? the FTX AU series is only 75m. Can anyone verify this?

Yes. Im 100% sure.

Just a heads up: FTX NZ South Island will be at internal alpha stage by the end of this month. This development build will contain all roads, rivers, coastlines and a 20m elevation mesh, and will have all airports in the SI upgraded (similar to how we did PNW) and custom landclass development will begin from July. The core custom ground texture work for NZSI won't begin until Matt Tomkins has completed his work on the Northern Rockies region later in the year.[/quote]

It will try to install it to an FS9 directory in C drive, you will have to move it into FSX manually

Ahh, ok, will go hunting for it. I never had fs9 installed on this PC so may have to get creative to find it.

I have FSX SP2 installed on my PC. Its a Q6600 overclocked to 3.4 Ghz with an ATI 4850 GPU so it will run it Ok. As I said there are some parts of FSX that look great and others are not (and some of the screenshots illustrate both aspects). When I consider the expense of purchasing all the add ons again then it becomes a sizeable investment and I need a significant incentive for me to shift. With a few good tweaks and various scenery/aircraft packages it is possible to get fantastic results with FS9 and at awesome frame rates.
As I said this vector land class will probably sway me to consider the big shift.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!
