Testers wanted...

Information and support relating to this forthcoming New Zealand Vector Land Class addon.

Postby toprob » Thu Aug 12, 2010 2:58 pm

With the release of VLC within sight, we are looking for NZFF members to test the installer's operation with various operating systems. Note that this is separate from the VLC beta, and does not include the option to install VLC itself.

However those who take part in this installer beta will receive a discount coupon towards the purchase of VLC. So please don't apply if you do not intend to purchase VLC.

FSX Scenery Installer beta test:
The purpose of this test is to check that all operating systems, and some specific FSX installations, can reliably make the changes which the VLC installer will need to make. Typical issues which need to be checked are related to variations in FSX file locations, and Windows User Access Control. Testing will involve downloading and running a mock installer, and reporting on the results. it may also require running an uninstall option, and reporting on that. The results of each test will determine if another test is necessary, so there may be at least two test/report cycles, but I wouldn't imagine more than four. Each test/report process should take from 15 to 30 minutes.

Tests are time-critical, so please don't apply if you are not able to complete each test within 24 hours of receiving it.

The install test is designed to be non-invasive, in that although it will access some FSX files, and it may add some files to your FSX installation, it won't change anything, and it shouldn't damage your FSX installation. However as a beta tester you need to be aware that there are risks attached to this, and normal backup precautions should be used. If you are unable to accept a very minor element of risk, please don't apply. I'm happy to answer any concerns you may have.

If you are interested in taking part in this beta, please let me know via theContact link on my website.

If you have done beta testing for me before, you are especially welcome to apply, I'm sorry that I just haven't had the time to invite you to take part personally.

Only a handful of testers are required, and these will be chosen to fill gaps in the OS and FSX installation combinations which are not covered by the VLC beta team. Please don't be offended if you are not chosen.

Please let me have this information when you apply:

Your name;
Your NZFF user name;
Your operating system;
The full path of your FSX installation.

Thanks to those who have been in touch so far. So far most are using Windows 7 and a non-default install location, which is a combination very well covered by the existing beta team.
So although you are still welcome to apply if you use Windows 7, we still need some Vista and XP users!

You and everyone else:)
However because of your install path, you are still on the shortlist.

You could always try installing the Windows XP Mode that you can download for free... (although it is limited to some specific versions "Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate")

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

I've used it and it works pretty sweet for running/testing WinXP stuff... if you're just testing installer stuff, it shouldn't even matter that it would probably suck at running flightsim tongue.gif

Yea same here, except I upgraded from Vista. Best thing I did in most cases though!

Ya, I experienced a very noticeable performance increase going from XP to 7.
As for my install path, it was just whatever default happened for Win7 64 bit install of FSX. However, if there is any chance I can be of help, am happy to participate. smile.gif

I do have Win XP x64 with FSX installed on one of my HDDs as well as the one I use with Win 7 x64 so I could boot to that HDD and run some tests on there if required
