NZFF

Just a few that I took at Classic Fighters. I was pretty disappointed with the RNZAF presence at this airshow, but nevertheless, it was still a pretty good airshow.

Favourite part of the show was the Vincent Aviation ZK-VAC Dash 8 display, so VAC - make sure you ask for a repeat in 2011!

I really like that last shot, the camo paint looks quite dramatic against the blue sky.

I loved the Vincent Aviation display as well. Along with all of it of course!!

I was disappointed with the Caribou display to be honest. It wasn't any more impressive than the Dash.. I hear it was a woman pilot though

It was a reasonable display, but I guess its a pretty boring aircraft, apart from its STOL capabilities and what not.

Jeeze you guys are hard to please. That Carabou stole the show again. The noise.... The distance in which it stops and goes again. Piston engine machine with reversing capability. You young guys have no appreciation for aviation history.

Yeah I love the contrast in that Caribou shot too- although the Vincent Dash looked much more impressive in Alister's youtube video.

I know how impressive it is as I've seen it perform at Omaka before but what I was trying to say is that it was not as impressive as previous years- the landing/take off distances weren't that short considering what they're capable of. Perhaps if she'd landed upwind (One of the basics of flying isn't it?) her landing roll would've made the crowd really go wow..

I really do like the Caribou as an aircraft, I much prefer watching big transport planes being thrown around at shows- it's a welcome break from boring old Corsairs/Spitfires/Mustangs going back and forward again and again...

I know it sounds biased but the Dash 8 showed that it was really more versatile- a 240kt pass followed by a slow pass/handling display pretty much as slow as the 'bou, although with a landing that admittedly wasn't as spectacular, but still impressive considering how much faster/higher it can fly.

The Caribou display may of been restrained due to problems with cracking in the wings in some air frames and subsequently limited to what they can do - this is why they are been retired a few yerars earlier than planned..but they are over 40 years old so not surprising really.

Yeah I knew I'd be picked up on that..

They just don't do anything for me.. I know some (most) people just can't get enough of seeing a Corsair fly past at 400mph or whatever but after seeing them so many times doing the same thing again and again the magic has somewhat worn off.. Don't get me wrong, the sound of a Pratt and Whitney radial or a Merlin is a beautiful sound, but I like variety so I'd certainly rather see a more unusual aircraft display that I haven't seen before than see another WW2 fighter fly past. Another good example from Omaka was Ray Patchett's Fatman ag aircraft- it was something really unique that definitely caught my attention.

I really wish the Yaks, Nanchangs and Harvards would do something different. Ive seen them way to many times for them to be interesting now. They were interesting in 92 and 96 but since then, they just pale compared to other displays.

Thus why you probably have noticed, I didnt take any pictures of the Classic Aircraft. I think I took one each of the Harvard, P51 and Corsair, but WW1 era doesn't really float my boat..

Which is how I feel about the WW2 fighters.

Airshow samo,s ... nah never , WW1 dont ever say that in front of Zac , classic WW2 never fail to please , the Bumble Bees ... Yes the Red Checkers were wavering me a bit till Nigel 'Nije' Booth put his CT4E on our computers , as for the rest of the shows i just enjoy the lot . A real aviation enthusiast , .. well good example in Christchurch many just sit and watch the simple commercial flights come and go .

Put it perspective .. some people sit at a race track and watch cars go round and round and round and round .............. and round .. three hours later , round and round

I suppose we're getting so many airshows lately that people are becoming a bit used to it. When you get a few more miles on your clock (like me) you appreciate the
whole range offered to you. Some of the various low passes at recent Tauranga Airshows were worth the price of admission for me. However, some of the WW1 shots
posted on this forum recently really were appreciated. I think the diversity is what makes the day for many people, the sheer difference from "then and now" should be
accepted for what it is.

As an example, for many years I have collected scale 1:18 roadster cars, Aston Martins, Bugatti's, early SS Jaguars, Mercedes Benz, Alfa Romeo etc, the golden age of motoring. My grandsons, whom at one stage I thought I'd leave them to, wonder where are the Holdens.....? I despair for humanity....

The WW1 stuff is alway impressive. Jerry throwing the Fokker DVII around REALLY low and close to the crowd was awesome to watch. The RE8 was special just to see the thing get in the air. 7 Fokker DR1s? Never seen since the great war. The WW1 stuff is saving airshows for me at the moment.

I too have a reasonable collection of such things. Lotus 49s, Eagle T1g, Ferrari 500, GT40 etc. Quite a lot of people look at these cars and say, have you got any McLaren F1s?
