Hey,
I took these with my new DSLR today. I'm only posting the best shots - due to the heat some of my other shots came out a bit hazy.
Overall I'm pleased with the results. Note: These are unedited and have been reduce in size thus some may lack quality. They are 20% original size.

Just a small selection of the 200 I took. Tell me what you think,
Cheers,
Kelburn

Well I took these at 3:30-4:00pm But I would say 6pm-8pm would be a better time cause then you wouldn't get as much glare.

Yeah love the Convair- hadn't seen an airbourne one in ages until two weekends ago at Napier enroute from the Chatams to Auckland.

I'm sure the sound of those two huge radials starting made your trip out in the hot afternoon sun worth it Kelburn tongue.gif

Awesome pics Kelburn!
Must say that I really like the 4th one (the Qantas) and the head on Convair.

Haha, I'm pretty sure Paul knows what a radial engine is. I think that post was meant to have a mild tone of disbelief - the Convair doesn't have radial engines, they are turboprop (Allison I think?). winkyy.gif

I remember someone telling me a little while back that the CV-580 propellers are the same as those on the Hercules. Is this correct? They certainly look very similar.

Yeah similar engines too. They are Allisons, about 2000shp each I think so not much more power than a Dash 8-100.

My bad- my above comment was a guess from memory. As I said, I hadn't heard or seen a Conny in action for quite some time, and just guessed from the loud drone that they were radial driven- time to go study Mr. Wikipedia! icon_redface.gif
