On to the display line!

Gene de Marco's lovely Stampe. This was the first time I'd seen one in the flesh, and it was great to be able to compare it with a Tiger


The aforementioned Tiger Moth, flown by Tim Sullivan and later Greg MacDonald

Taildragger Training's Piper Pacer, for those of you who want something a tad more modern ! Took part in balloon bursting along with the Stampe and Tiger.....great exhibition of pilot skills!


Even Hood has a "commentary bus".....

Camel and Brisfit.....for the first time I remember, the Allies outnumbered the Hun! 7 aircraft with roundels (including one "Fortunello") to 6 with crosses

Jerry Chisum, in full Luftstreitkrafte regalia, watches the display after his first outing in the D.VII. I seriously want to take over display duties of this aeroplane! After refurbishment it looks great, and looks amazing to fly. I asked Jerry if it was as fun to fly as it looked. He thought it over...."um.....yes! Those great thick wings let you do anything"


Even though I have a WHOLE THREAD dedicated to the Se.5a-1s, here's one of them prior to their display. Gorgeous!

I took some shots of a couple of the displays, mainly the superb "furball" between Dr.Is and Se5s, but I'm far too embarrassed to post them! Just wait til Alex posts his!

I see you got my message then Cheers for posting them mate!

Am I right in thinking that the TVAL are to have quite a few open days this summer, like once a month or something? I remember seeing a list of upcoming airshow type things in a newsletter I got emailed sometime in the last few weeks but can't seem to find it anymore... looks like a great day out anyway.

And also, how far away is Masterton from Welly or Palmy in the car? I might have to use up some of my ANZ staff discount points and get me down there sometime..

It's about 1hr 30 from Welly, and about the same from Palmy. I normally drive over on a Saturday after work to our Wararapa bach which is about 25mins from Hood, and these little shows are normally late afternoon on a Saturday. Could probably bring you over one weekend? Might even be able to hook you up with a bed at the bach too

Don't be so hard on your camera Zac! They're all good shots! How long ago was this show that you were at? I was at one about 3-4 weeks ago. Did you see a yellow truck with a container on the back on the far side of the field?

Re.8 The 'Harry Tait' .. my first , what i considered my first ! cardboard (Weetbix box - raw material ) model plane , making those funny aeroplane noises , damn .. i was getting good at that , i recall i got the idea to build it from a book given to my older brother Allan ... 1968/69 Xmas "The Conquest of the Air" was the title ... jezz is was pissed ! I had more interest in planes than he did .. that book should have been mine

The Harry Tait , Re.8 , Harry Tait - Re.8 , .. the name was given from a piano player of the era and the open tappet were his fingers ..... id prefer to keep mine outta those moving parts

Hey Trolly, the hangar "museum" is open every weekend between November and April I think...went last April, and it was a fantastic experience. I got some great pics, though with all that hardware in the hangar it was a bit hard to get photos that only had one aircraft in! I didn't win their special opening celebration prize of a flight in the back seat of the P-40 though unfortunately

Not sure how often they have the planes out flying but when we were there they said that most weekends someone is about keeping up their flying hours in one aircraft or another...
