This is probably my favourite shot from the day, nice and close with lots of noise at 6500ft, was a bit spoilt that day.
Makes all the hard work worth it though.

Worthy of a cover, certainly clapping.gif .
They're difficult to photograph, these grey birds...I have a heap of failures to back this up

Yeah its not easy against snow.
I hear that Air Force News has used nother of my Huey photos in there cover as well but havent seen it yet.
Also have the Spitfire cover on Classic Wings so three covers on three current magazines is a first for me.

Is this the shot you mean Charl,
If so it hasnt been stitched or photo chopped, I tried a focus method to try and get cockpit action and a clear panel and it nearly worked.

I got a surprise the other day when I got my copy in the letter box....I forgot I signed up for it.

Here is the cover.

Gavin,
Nice Photos
I take it you were there for the first week of the exercise, before the heavy snow.
Heres a photo I took when the hueys had to come and pick us up at the end of the exercise, from Dipflat because all the roads were blocked.
We got about 8" of snow in about 5 hours.

Hello Trev , Great pic thumbup1.gif , I think the Huey,s should be equipped with those fan dangle gadget,s they have on the T.V. shows .. a Stealth switch (dial) nothing fancy , just as you fly into a whited area just gently turn the to BRIGHT for white and Dark for ninja.gif SAS , .... thinking SAR ... it may be appropiate biggrin.gif

Gavin I do like in the trees cockpit pic , we need to get lower blink.gif

No...it had the pilot in profile, as well as the copilot...I noticed it because you'd captured the whole Herky office and it's a big one.
Of course I should've lifted the pic - given the number you have, I now can't find it again!

Beautiful snow pic BTW Trev clapping.gif

That is a great shot in the snow.
I was there during the first week, lovely weather at that point.

Awesome shots Gav and Trev- what an experience it must have been!

Have saved the pics to my laptop and will be using them as desktop backgrounds for the foreseeable future. Thanks for posting clapping.gif

The second week of the exercise had two lots of snow, first lot was only about 2-3" still enough to collapse our two man tents on us.
I checked early one morning, it was -3 degrees in my tent. Luckily the RNZAF issue us with real good sleeping bags.
On the second week we had the guys from Flightpath TV filming us. ( http://www.flightpathtv.com/page54/page54.html ) They have a short video clip on there sight about the exercise.

A photo before it snowed
