Out yesterday with the camera and snapped a few photos of the SoundsAir Cessna Caravans at Picton Koromiko. Turned out that they were training a pilot, so lots of t/offs and landings in a short time, great for photos despite the poor light. Almost a 90 degree crosswind too, and low cloud to add to the fun.

Smooth landings, and a HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

thanks, they were taken with a Panasonic FZ30, which has a fantastic Leica lens and image stabilisation. I might get around to putting the videos up here as well, also interesting to see the crosswind!!

Happy Christmas!!

The Panasonic is my 4th digital camera, and the second Panasonic. I had a Canon D350 and spent a small fortune on good lenses for it, but could not get decent photos. It turns out that the photos needed far too much post-processing, and that is a slow business!! So happy with the FZ30, and from what I hear, the FZ8 is also good too. Only negative thing with Panasonic (and this has been a problem with them for many models) is that they are not good in low light. Noise becomes a problem over about 200ASA so I normally shoot at 80ASA, even if this means a large aperture. A 12X optical zoom also makes a big difference to the photos. I also keep it on the maximum quality (8mp) all the time, as it is easy to reduce later but impossible to upsize the photos.

Sad thing is the number of airports now where you have to shoot through thick and dirty glass, hard to get a decent photo then.

Happy Christmas!!

SAA makes an interesting comparison with PDM - ones a Grand Caravan (SAA) and the other is an ordinary Caravan
