Marlborough Airshow

This was my first time at Classic Fighters. I can't help comparing it to Wanaka -- good and bad. Mainly its a personal preference -- I love the warbirds, and Wanaka is pretty full-on. Classic Fighters seemed to have some rather long gaps with nothing happening, but when it all came together it worked great. Omaka itself is fabulous for this type of thing -- a lot easier to get to than Wanaka, and beautifully positioned for the sun all day.
I was amazed at how dry the basin is -- at one stage the pyro guys set fire to the airfield, and within seconds it was racing towards the vines. I'm amazed that half of Marlborough isn't on fire at this time of the year.
Hmmm, lots of blurry shots again, I am not really cut out for this type of photography. However I've managed to salvage a few.

Liked your not shot of the Fokker's gauges, pity the passers-by in the background weren't another Jagdestaffel rather than Yaks!
And the Camel and buddy aginst the crowd backdrop - gives a real feel of an airshow.
We tend to try to cut the people out of A/C pics but a show is all about the people too, innit?

Jimmy -- the Wing Walker kind of freaked me out, I know its a real person (she walked right past me afterwards) but because of the solid support it looked a bit like a corpse stuck on a pole:)
Incidentally, on Sunday instead of the walker there was the most amazing display by the Tiger Moth -- I wouldn't have thought you could do some of the things it did. I bought a raffle ticket for a ride in this, but I didn't win...

Charl -- I was going to call the Fokker pic 'Baron Eye's View'.

Sorry, can't put you out of your misery -- I left on Sunday around 2:30, but I assumed if I'd won they would have rung me. Still, there might be someone trying to get hold of you at this very minute...
