Its funny how you look at Christchurch airport now, nothing like it was, one off the earliest comments I put on this forum was it being the best airport in New Zealand , that was near 10 years ago.

I was there a couple of weeks ago, first time in 8 years.... Certainly changed a bit since then. Saw the 747 there, but didn't get to get close to it to get photos.

Lawrence, with the change to the airport and the ghostly city you think your in a different city, as far as planners are concerned same could be said for the airport planning with a lack of viewing platforms, I use to spend almost a day out there... now its more like a fancy cattle shed.

I know the old airport was past it's prime, but I did like the old airport, the viewing area was fantastic. I know the parking wasn't the best in it's time either, but certainly prefer it to now.

The outlying areas of Christchurch (didn't really get out East sadly) didn't look too different, obviously some buildings missing, but I expect that after 8 years anyways. Going out to Sumner and seeing the sea containers all over the place gave me a hint, but yeah, entering that central city area made me cry - literally.

Again Christchurch had it's problems, but also it had a soul, something I feel is missing, it was already a cold (but sunny day), but seeing so many buildings missing, although I knew was the case, in the clear daylight was something I didn't expect.

I did see the area where Beverley used to live was totally gone, and that was sad, as that was nice in that area, and also went out to QE2, obviously nothing there, but my sister and I were showing our kids around where we laid our claim to fame.

I do miss the closeness of the community, as I wouldn't my a buddy to help me get around the 737 now that I have it :) I'll need to put a bumpersticker on my plane, if you don't like my flying, choose a different taxiway...

It was weird looking at the old Millers building or was Council building , it really looked like something out off a war movie , I had to go across to Burwood hospital on the bus so a good opportunity to look it was a weird sensation then of the return trip seeing the angles some of the building were was amazing.
