It's not often that a civilian pilot gets the chance to practice a strafing run on an operating International Airport, but that's exactly what happened in January 2013 at Wellington International Airport in New Zealand. As a publicity stunt for the forthcoming Wings Over Wairarapa airshow, a trio of World War II fighters (including the de Havilland Mosquito) were given clearance to perform a couple of 'attack' runs over the airport. Keith Skilling lead the formation in the Mosquito, and provided his passenger ex-617 ('Dambusters') Sqn pilot Les Munro with a front-row seat to the action. Liz Needham in the Curtiss P-40N Kittyhawk and Gavin Trethewey in the Supermarine Spitfire TR.9 completed the formation. This week's feature video gives you a rarely seen view of Wellington Airport as seen from the rear seat of the Spitfire.
