On a number of Gavin's great shots of the Mosquito, Vampire and Venom, there appears to be a marking on the wings that I would like explained.

On the excellent shot of the Mosquito and Vampire together I can see a "box" pattern on the wing area adjacent to the fuselage in red paint, also on the trailing
edge near the flaps.

A shot of the Venom shows similar marking, but in yellow, these markings almost appear to be an insignia....?

Can anyone enlighten this old bloke as to what the significance is.

Barry , they are your standard - 'NO STEP' area markings , all across board on the RNZAF aircraft they are Red due to the silver dope , with the Venom - theses were on lease from the RAF , hence the RAF/NZAF paint .. due to the RAF camo of the period the stencils were the same but colour to the standard Yellow .

Yep, that would explain it.......a subsequent photo of the Mosquito makes it clearer as well. Tks for that.
