Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, this is the 1st ever, NZFF Aviation Photography Competition!

The competition, similar to the Screenshot competition, involves real world aviation photographs, instead of screenshots. The winner of the competition each month, will be named the NZFF Photographer of the Month, and receive a special NZFF graphic acknowledging them as such, allowing them to showcase their achievement on NZFF and across the internet.

Please note, I have posted the thread earlier, to enable you to start thinking about the new competition and as I am going away.

This months rules are as follows:

1) The photograph must be a photograph, not a screenshot or include any computer generated imagery in the picture.

2) The photo must either be taken in New Zealand (or New Zealand territory), or alternatively the photo can be taken overseas if an aircraft registered in NZ is featured (i.e. ZK-XXX).

3) Editing is allowed, so go for it!

4) The photo posted, must be no more than 1024 pixels wide and no less than 800 pixels wide. This enables all of us to properly view and critique all photos.

5) Images must be taken between the 1st July and the 31st July 2009. As with the Screenshot competition, you can alter you initial photo, by editing your post and embedding the new photo.

6) On July 31st, a poll will open, run for a few days to decide who has the best image. Whichever photo has the most votes at the end of the voting period will be deemed the winner.

Few Notes, to clarify certain matters in relation to the Screenshot Comp.

Currently, we have no theme, as it is unfair to ask people to concentrate on certain areas or particulars, depending on where they live. Unlike flight simulator, where we can program weather and aircraft without hassle.

As this is a new competition, we are welcome to ideas. If anybody has any suggestions they would like me to consider, please do not hesitate to send me a PM.

To keep this competition running, we need lots of entries! Everybody has the inner photographer in them, so lets see those photos! biggrin.gif

Well im not like most and dont go outta my way to go plane spotting ,i do have my photos of aircraft that are stored until i need them ,this shot was taken 200? and because i want to enter to be part of this it was taken between the dates above tongue.gif ,
im not sure that is a good rule anyway and for what reasons its included i have no idea ,as it goes against input from many worthy shots that could be entered ,if you want this comp to work id suggest you look at this rule closely
as for my entry i see nothing you can do about it as its within the rules and to top it of is taken on NZ soil

Just a quick note guys. There have been a couple of authors that haven't fully read the criteria at the top of the page. Please have a close look at what is needed to keep this competition moving smoothly. smile.gif

Ben is away on holiday (actually he is here, it's a little ironic), and has asked me to keep an eye on this thread while he is away. But yes, if it's a photo, if it has some aviation aspect, if it was taken sometime this month, you can enter it. winkyy.gif

We'll probably be tweaking a few of the rules over the next few days. Some of the feedback we're getting has suggested that some people aren't completely happy with rules as they stand. Stay tuned. winkyy.gif Feel free to PM either Ben or me if you have any thoughts/ideas. As this is a completely new competition, we don't think we'll get everything perfect from the get-go. smile.gif

A quick note, don't feel the need to religiously incorporate the date into your photo - as long as it looks like it's recent we'll be happy with it. If there's any uncertainty we can check the photo's EXIF data to confirm the particulars. smile.gif

The time-frame guideline was added in to try and get a turnover of photos, and an up-to-date view of aviation in New Zealand. There have been many great photos taken over the years, and we don't want to detract from those in the slightest, but for this competition, current photos are most appreciated. Again, if you have feedback don't hesitate to get in touch. smile.gif

Photo taken about 7 hours ago at NZAA (Puhinui Rd) on a pretty miserable afternoon. Heavy squally showers, skies various shades of dark gray. Sized to 1024 wide. Oh for the opportunity to program my desired weather !!! laugh.gif

I could have brightened it and tweaked the curves a bit to make it pop, but heck, I'm just impressed that a P&S camera could get it this good.

Slight tweak of the rules guys. To focus this competition more on New Zealand, in keeping with the forum's theme....

Entries must be taken in New Zealand, or feature a New Zealand aircraft (registered in New Zealand) overseas.
