After two previous attempts I finally managed to locate the actual NZFF airfield, located approx 10NM east of NZCH.

The airfield itself, known ans Forest Fields or Eyrewell, appears to now be disused, with some buildings that have seen better days, and the runways (grass fields) looking like grazing zones for the local cows. It also appears the main East-West runway has had an irrigation drain dug through it. The windsoks remain, but as youll see they have had better days.

So, without further ado, I present NZFF.

I remember in post #1 here, I opened by saying "No, not an ICAO code, NZFF is in fact an acronym for New Zealand Flightsim Forums." only to search it up on the CAA site a few days later and find out I was wrong.

Now, just under a year later, Jon has exposed my little secret :whoops: But good on ya mate, I've always wondered since last April what it looked like in real life. Well I was right in imagening there was quite a lot of trees around lol  Were the buildings compleatly deserted?

It's in quite a sad state really- perhaps we should shove a few pennys together and get it up and running again :P Build a nice big air conditioned computer simming lab at one end of the runway, with a hanger next door for those "real" aircraft...

It's the place that forest field is at, small... wouldn't even call it a town really

The satellite images of the area are rubbish on both Google Maps/Earth. Anyone got photoreal coverage of it, just south of NZRT?

Haha that brings back a lot of memories for me. Canterbury and Christchurch Helicopters used to be based there. I remember when I was in 5th Form at school, I did some holiday work for them, cleaning, filling jerry cans etc. Great fun. Forest Field is actually a different place. I did my first light aircraft flying there for a Scout Camp way back in the early 90s

Glad you managed to find it, hope I didn't point you in the wrong direction the first time

Bit of a shame to see something like that, at least there isn't any cows on the rwys..yet

Thanks for sharing :)

Perhaps you guys are not aware that the airfield is used mainly by its residents that border the field. Many well known aviation indenties, including 767 pilots, Pam Colloins, well known NZ aviator and her husband manage the field.

Pam also uses the field occassionly to host flying camps for ATC and Scouting.

May look a bit run down, but used mostly by the residents.

Have you ever wanted to live next door to your own airfield, your own hangar, then this could be the place, some fantastic homes around the field.

Found this in my old VFG. Quite a decent setup considering its location. Does anyone know the history behind this airfield? Just seems odd having such an airfield considering its proximity to Rangiora.

Powerlines make for interesting approaches......

Next time I fly myself flying down that way I'll see if I can pick up one or two NZFFers and have a buzz round ;)

Interesting coincidence, I was looking at this airfield in my Vol. 4 AIP just a few minutes ago.
