Obviously, this video wouldn't have been possible without the help of Tom.. thanks very much!!! Captain James on the left, Captain Peter on the right (and talking to the passengers on route).
Keep in mind it is dark, and very cloudy for our departure, so my camera was doing it's best. I was lucky enough to get from departure all the way through to 22,000ft (with breakfast in the jump seat!)

I'm going to upload the Wanaka airshow video very shortly :D It's uploading to Youtube now, so if you beat me to the post, you might find it in my "other videos" at youtube.

Edit:... hmmmm.... my video link doesn't seem to work like it should.. here is the direct link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL-8oFoqo-I

Edit 2: if my workmates read this.. I am bringing in a dvd version to work on Tuesday! (so basically, don't spoil the surprise watching it on Youtube).

Edit 3: If anyone wants a better copy of the video than Youtube can present it, I could upload it online for download. The Show video is approx 50mb, and the jump seat 25mb approx.

Wow! They have cup holders in the cockpit! That's brilliant, I thought there would be less work to do in a smaller plane like the Dash compared to a B733 but it looks like there's almost as much! Great video, lucky man!

Just saw the Warbirds vid....The sounds! I'm going to find my self watching pearl harbour and other ww2 movies over and over now!

Great cockpit video Alister, a wonderful experience and good of you to share it.
I'll bet there will be more than one FS flight loaded up at RealNZ Wellington and headed south, after watching this!

I see Wanaka's weather was a bit cruel to the photographers this year, but never mind, the show never fails to impress.
Pity the Globemaster couldn't dip a wing through the cloud eh?
Some great tracking shots there, and something of a sacrifice on your part to miss the entire show live, so as to bring it to us on Youtube!
Still, you would have had the SOUNDS - isn't the Trojan a uniquely noisy blighter!
Not to mention the Poli's and...and...

Yes Charl, I'm glad you noticed how poor the weather was for us on the Saturday.. it certainly made life hard for my camera. To not only have the sun behind the aircraft, but to have thick cloud cover as well. So many minutes of video turned out as nothing more than silouettes.. I know what you mean about seeing nothing of the airshow other than a LCD screen  As such I basically recorded 30-60 % of the actual flying displays, and left myself time to actually watch them in person as well :)
I was disappointed the Globemaster couldn't make it :( But, they have their reasons and given the terrain, it's hardly surprising.

Awesome video Alister- I've just gotta recreate that flight down to Wanaka in FS! Any idea how far down the coast we where before we turned inland? I remember looking at the GPS as we were overhead Banks Peninsula so it must have been quite a bit further than that.

Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea. The last waypoint shown on the nav system is CH in my video, and shortly after filming that I returned to the cabin. The guys up front told me we'd be flying down as far as Timaru before turning inland, so without a flight plan from them, I'd use that point. They did follow the arrival procedures from AIP for the event: http://www.aip.net.nz/pdf/supplements/aip_...rds_13mar08.pdf

They did the Dunstan 11 arrival by the look of things. :)
