Ok, the poll is on. Given this has 24 options, we'll do a poll to do the top 3 first and, if we don't have a clear winner, re-run the top 3. My vote was for FRENZY, although there have been a few very good ones.

Are we all happy with the name?
Hmm... The only (read ONLY) qualm I have with it is that it uses the phrase "Real NZ" which could be a bit of an identity clash with Real NZ scenery. If I saw "Free Real NZ anything" and had already heard of Real NZ scenery, I would tend to assume that this is a free version of their scenery rather than an entirely new project. It also makes it difficult to google "Real NZ" as you'd always find matches to this project. The other day I was trying to google information about MS Outlook but NOT MS Outlook Express. Really hard to do. If I searched for Outlook -Express I got a very limited number of results since a number of the pages I needed actually mentioned Outlook Express but focussed on Outlook.
Going back to Christian's post in an earlier thread...QUOTEWe need a catchy project title. Personally, I'd favour Real Airports NZ, but that's out of the question as since that's too close to Robin's RealNZ airports. So let's share your favourte name ideas here and we'll do a poll in the end.[/quote]
..it seems that despite best attempts, we've ended up somewhere we had hoped to avoid. Don't get me wrong, I like the name... it's just the classic 'already taken' problem that bands and software developers often run into.
Just my two cents. I'll take whatever people are happy with. I personally avoided voting for this one because I thought we were steering clear of names already in existence.

I tend to agree- I chose another option to avoid this....
Perhaps we could keep the FRENZY catch name but slighty change the definiton to 'Free NZ Scenery' or some such??

And I didn't even notice! I'm being unlucky with picking names, it seems...
Not sure where we are now, maybe we should go through the names and discard the 'bad' ones.
My feeling about the word free is a bit similar to Ian's first comment - of course it's free. It's sort of the 'obvious' choice. I'd love to have something more catchy, something that makes people go - hey, what's this? got to go check it out! I have to admit 'postcards from NZ' is really growing on me. It really sticks in your mind, the name creates images of beautiful scenery in your head and it's certainly intriguing.
Anyway what do we do? Suggestions? I'd like to get this name business over and done with...

One thing I know for sure is that something this world does not need is another three-letter acronym ending in X.... FSX, ASX, REX, FEX... At one end of the spectrum, you've got names like that. Electronic, clinical, sterile, and uninspiring. At the other end, you've got wordy names that create images in your mind. I tend to agree that we should consider the latter for our name.
I voted for 'SceneNZ'. I liked how it could be said as "Scenes" or "Scene en zed". I was torn between it and FreeNZ for a while. I liked how that reminded me of "Free Air" which of course is Freedom Air's callsign. Given the vote again now, I think I'd sway toward one of the longer names that creates an image in your mind. I know most those (FSX, REX, ASX etc) are abbreviations for a longer name, but they were all crying out to be shortened in the first place I reckon.
I like Postcards From New Zealand, Kiwiana and Shaky Isles Scenery. Only thing is, the last one would make a DAMN good name for a scenery company I reckon!
Where to from here? Sheesh... umm.... bury our heads in the sand and hope that someone just picks a name? Perhaps "Postcards from New Zealand" would appeal to the overseas market? After all, when they travel here for a holiday, that's exactly what their family and friends receive. Kiwiana and Shaky Isles both require a little knowledge about NZ and terminology first. It would be like releasing Cook Islands scenery and calling it "Kia Orana Cook Islands Scenery". It's the obvious choice, and for someone who has been there, it makes perfect sense. But for someone who knows nothing about Cook Islands Maori, it basically reads "*&! ($!&! Cook Islands Scenery" since those words are meaningless. I know if I saw scenery for a Spanish-speaking country called "bueno para volar Brazil Scenery" I'd skip past, even though it means "good for flying" according to freetranslation.com anyway. "Postcards from Brazil" makes me think it must be worth looking at and exploring the whole modelled world lying within it.
