Been there many times for the Warbirds over Wanaka airshow , my 2000 trip had low cloud cover like that ... but a lot more people and then in come the rain But they kept flying .

We do get a few off those , reason for it is they put an irrigator in the center spraying water on the crop causing the circle - they don't go thru rivers tho... no UFOs involved
