Hi guys-

Just FYI, I'm going to be away from the computer for the next two weeks- flying down to Taupo tomorrow to spend the week at the lake and A1GP, then following that, going on a family trip to Hawkes Bay which I won't return from until 2nd Feb, meaning there will be a short delay before I send out the newsletter, start the voting for the January Screenie Comp, and get the Feb one up and running. Hopefully the short wait will be worth it, we've got an awesome prize lined up for next month!

Cheers,
Andrew cool.gif

No worries Andrew, I'm happy to close up this month's comp and get the voting started for ya. wink.gif

Have an awesome time at the A1GP though, I was tempted to pop down for one of the days as well, but should really save my money. rolleyes.gif

Yes Andrew, have a good time at the A1GP smile.gif

As I said to Tom the place the rest of us are staying is about 5 mins from the track and has hot/cold pools, we'll be hitting the water at the end of each day about the same time you guys hit the 100km/h sign on the way out of town - and not sure what time you'll be leaving to get to the track on time, but please give us a call about 20 mins before you arrive to make sure we're awake laugh.gif

See ya there.

And if anyone else comes down and happens to come through on a pitwalk say hi - we'll be somewhere among the blackshirts forming the barrier in front of the garages.

Cheers
Gary

Back now, and have a few photos to share.

Taupo was awesome- although I didn't get a window seat on the 1900 down, sat right behind the cockpit though so it was interesting to watch what was going on with the instruments and see a LAN A340 touching down a few metres from the windscreen whilst holding for takeoff.

Stayed with Tom and his mates in Pukawa (other end of the lake) which was really nice, met a few amusing characters down there too, and drove up to the race track last weekend on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday where we met Gary, aka Chairman.

I think we did about 18 seconds of work over the three days- just timing the pit stops for one team (I was assigned RSA) and writing down any observations on a sheet of A4. Spent the rest of the time perving at the cars and watching the races from the grandstand or on the garage TV's. Was good fun, but bloody hot. 38 degrees on the Saturday afternoon I think, and it didn't help that we were all wearing black!

Couldn't be bothered getting up early for the return flight on Tuesday morning, so we roadtripped down Desert Road to Wellington and I caught a 737 back in the evening instead- got a few aviation related pics from the airport which I'll post at the end of this message, there's about 30 in total, but I havn't put a 56k warning on the thread because I don't think anyone even has that sort of connection any more!

One of the Red Checkers doing a donut after landing on the back straight- got a real good view of their aerobatic routine as the crowdline was along the main grandstand, and we were well infront of that.

RNZAF promo Huey- saw it fly in, and heard it fly out:

The Lifeflight Metro from next door (3news were actually filming this aircraft carrying a baby to Auckland Starship while we were taking the above pics, which was on Nightline that night and you could see us in the background- think the vid clip is on their website somewhere but can't remember the name of it)

And my ride home:

Got a few snaps from Hawkes Bay where I've been staying since last Wednesday, but first I better go and clean all the bugs and roadkill remnants off the family car- will properly post them in a new thread later. (I'll sort out the newsletter and screenie comp tomorrow also)

Big thanks Gary for getting us into the race, was great to meet you mate thumbup1.gif

Cool as Pics Andrew, but the 1900D does have autopilot - unless of course in this case it didnt for some other reason??

Yep, I'm aware of this (I'm a PMDG customer!) but I've been told that ANZ purchased their fleet without the autopilot option, although I'm not sure where I'd be able to find an article online to back this up- maybe some of the RW pilots on here can confirm this?

EDIT
See here Ben: http://www.pprune.org/archive/index.php/t-325821.html

Well on short hops like the NZAA to NZAP flight, I'm sure the aircraft trims out nicely and flys in a straight line smile.gif Not sure if our fleet include wing levelers or not?

Here's two more shots from Taupo, a PAC 750 which I'd never seen before (in the flesh) and another DC3 converted into a resturant at Maccas:

It's because he replied to the forum post in November where I asked if anyone wanted jobs in pit lane at the A1GP biggrin.gif

Haven't had anyone put their hand up to say they're interested in doing the same thing - but without the 18 seconds work laugh.gif - at the NZV8 meeting at Pukekohe in March yet ...

Any help needed for V8 Supercars in Hamilton.....?

That's one of the events we don't have any trouble getting people for laugh.gif

We're not allowed a lot of people and competition for the spaces we have is pretty fierce. You must have some experience and be available all days to be considered, which knocks a lot of people out. I think I've managed to jump one of my other newbies from Taupo (Mike) up past the reserves onto the invite list and if Trolly was available all days he'd have a pretty good chance of getting there too, but only because they've done Taupo so know what they're doing.

Cheers
Gary

Was just searching for footage of the Taupo A1GP event and found this vid on youtube where you can see me in the background quite a bit (orange fluro vest next to Team Ireland on the pit wall):

Anyone know if the whole broadcast is available online anywhere?
