NZFF

I remember talk about a NZFF teamspeak channel what even came about that could it not work attached to the board ?
I would really like to see something like this attached to NZFF and would be happy to help in anyway getting it up and running ,i love the idea of chatting away and i do admin on VOZ so why not get it started over here it would be much better to see users in one place than all over the channels looking for each other ???

Ive just been looking into it and are still not 100% how to set up a account with them but i do know ive got $20 sitting here to help setup to buy a server space or something so for those how know how it works and how we get this going please posted here and explain what ill have to do to start up a TS channel for here ?
and ill try and get one up and going or something

Yeah i think it would be a great advantage to NZFF and the community spirt here ..im still looking into it all and are will to pay more for the service if i have to but thats all i have on my paypal at the moment that i can donate to the cause ,this would put alittle banner i think on the forums somewhere saying how many people are on etc and server address ,i know this works well for the community over at VOZ and was talked about before between admins at some stage just it never ended up going anywhere ..
so id like to do something to get this going and if you can offer advice if you have done this before on how a no profit forums like ourself gets something like this going it would be great if you could share some knowlegde with us on how it all goes ,,ill be talking at somestage with jay over at voz and see how he has set up his but im not sure when ill be talking to him next yet ..

In basic terms you have to have a server and a hosting plan, that gives you and others access to the server to install the program on (TS is easy to set up as a server) then you pay for traffic to and from the server, or pay 'per slot' per month.

One could set up a server at home on an old PC (I ran a TS server on a P133 system with 64 MB RAM) and use a no-ip address (no-ip.com allows an address like "nzff.no-ip.com" that will direct to your current IP address even when that changes, you run a dynamic update client to keep it working - it's all free) to connect but then it would be using that person's bandwidth. I can help with advice in this regard as I did it for a while but cannot now as my ISP doesn't allow direct external IP connect to my PCs (mine's like a big ethernet wireless connection).

OR you could rent a server with TS on it from someone like Gamers Net, but at the moment they are full up

Maybe Orcon could help?

OR, see if Inspire will consider passing on Admin or set up a new channel on their TS. Would help if someone in NZFF was an Inspire customer.

As for the setting up a server-I'll have to check about the external IP access but I'm happy for my PC to be a server.

Whats a slot and id be looking at paying for server space rather than running it on a members pc so we are not user bandwith that way and we can connect to it no probs also to admin would it be ok using the NZFF name for the server seeing we are setting up for NZFF users ,really i cant see it being a prob as i was chatting with andrew about this and he was all keen at the time doing this sort of thing but we where trying to keep it on the nzff host that we already have and i think that was the problem ,like ive said ive got money to set it up well i think and 12$ or so a month anit bad for the good something like this could do for NZFF ..

Mike, a slot is a space for someone to connect, so a 24 slot server could hold 24 people. I'd imagine that 24 would be the most you'd need. I'd agree that a company hosted server would be more reliable and offer less complication/more bandwidth.

edit: Just re-read your post regarding using the host that NZFF uses at the moment. The difference is Teampeak is an application that runs from a server, where as a forum serves up web pages, generally you pay more to be able to run the application on the server as it's more dynamic.

Ok well ill look into the links you dropped there for a server and see what the pricing is for 24 slots and ill get you some passwords and stuff if you keen and get you to help me set it up ,,just give me acouple of hours and ill see what i can do ,,

cant even see where or how to pay for this one if im going to set one up ill need to be able to pay by paypal so ill look for some more ,looked like a good one though for 24 slots ..
