Hey guys. Thanks so much for the prize-pass and for everyone who voted for the winners. I reckon it was a great comp, lots of fun posts. Am also loving this months one so far and I reckon we should look at further themes for months where foreign pics are possible, with a kiwi connection some how.

Anyway, regarding the prize I have opted for the CaptainSim base package for the 777 for P3D. Am about to start the slow but steady migration from FSX to P3D. I probably wont be buying any more commercial scenery or aircraft unless they are dual-installers for both, or at least for P3D. So am off to a great start with the 777. I'll post a decent review of it as soon as I have P3D installed, but for now will just say ...

THANKS TO CAPTAINSIM :groupwave:

We used to have an in-ground swimming pool which was the demise of one or two, but some summers would come out and there one would be quietly dog-paddling away with its wee snout just out of the water. Quick rescue mission later, into the leaf scoop and out of the water, shake themselves off and scuttle off to the nearest bush squinting in the light.

They are funny little buggers aye.

deeknow ...... i hate to say this , and i've been repressing it for years .... but many years ago .... i ATE one :(
Once the little thing is dispatched , and assuming you have access to a clay type soil ..... pack the clay around it . ... onto a fire , and about 30 minutes later , pull it out , all the spines come away in the clay .
Clean it up ... and , theres not much ... but" bon appetit " if you don't have clay .... then it becomes a little more difficult , pretty hard to skin. The taste (to me) was a bit like eel/chicken .

And while I'm fessing up to the group .... i once ate a native frog .... but couldn't cook it , it was gross ..... but thats all we could catch, and when your hungry :ph43r:

No I'm not a "man vs wild " type , just happened to help out with an aircrew survival exercise long ago ...... and i must say , when your that hungry (and i love animals) you just do it ..... ohhhh but it was hard.
Good on you , for the pool rescue thing

Marty, I'm amazed - never knew they were found outside Europe (or even the UK)

No Mike .... they are here as well.
The early settlers thought they would be a good idea , along with rabbits and possums , and deer..... bugger.
Interesting to note , that prior to Europeans arriving here (in NZ ) the only land based mammals we(well , not "we" because nobody was here) had were .... a few species of bat.
Everything else has been introduced , we didn't even have bee's ... so most native plants (flowers) are white .... to attract night flying things , the others attracted birds ... rata , kowhai etc .
A good percentage of the birds were flightless ..... no predators on the ground , some grew bigger than the ostrich (Moa) and of course the kiwi ..... not a particularly inspiring national bird ... but unique .

Very interesting place NZ , from a natural history perspective ...... no snakes , in fact when the first people arrived here (whoever they were ... and there are questions) it was just ..... birds , bats , and a few reptiles ...and some frogs and insects .... no dogs , cats , mice , rats , ferrets .... whatever .
The first ground based mammals to arrive here , may have been rats , and later dogs , on the sea going canoes of the Moriori ...( Ko matangi -ao) people.... but that is disputed .....and of course their culture is gone , but safe to say ... prior to white people getting here , this was a pretty special place.

Cheers Marty - Good to know they are yet another "introduced species". There are ongoing clearance projects in the Western Isles of Scotland, to remove these invaders who eat local seabirds eggs.
They might be cute, they might be good for the garden, but if they are not native they should not be there.

Mini four legged 'Billy Idols' they are, really they are as regular here in the late evening, I caught a Mrs Idol with two mini Idols snooping around whiles out star gazing , all three rolled into a ball till I went.

Good to know, Marty - there is a lot of good work being done in NZ, on this sort of problem.
On the other hand, we lose the tales of husbands sneaking home late from the pub, and putting out some catfood for the poor little hodger they saw on the patio, only to have darling wife tell them at brekky that yesty she lost a new lavatory brush somewhere between the supermarket and home :whoops:
