Welcome to Whangarei, a small domestic airport in the far north of New Zealand.
Whangarei is Northlands largest commercial airport, and is served by Air New Zealand Link,
Great Barrier Airlines, Mountain Air, and Vincent Aviation for passenger services.
The scenery has just been uploaded to Avsim, and will be availabale fairly shortly.
Search for "Lawrie Roache" at Avsim.

A couple of pics from the construction........................

Next up in the "Far North" series of airports will be NZDA Dargaville.

Well done Lawrie - Massive Magic Wand waved there to get the default humpback whaledown to sea level!

Fantastic, I like flying new aircraft on a NZAA-NZWR route and now I have somewhere decent to park up and inspect them rather than the grass as the side of the runway I have been putting up with!

And you have even got rid of the climbing water- brilliant job mate  This must be your best work yet!

great. But you should have used the other rwy-12 terminal with the flat front.
Just a few thing, there are no pine trees in real life like the ones that have been put in. It loks good. You must have taken pics during rush hour cause usually there's only (or when ever I've been there - an odd 10 times) about 10 GA Aircraft and 4/5 topdressers and the occasional Air NZ Link Aircraft.

What autogen is that because Onerahi (where the airport is) is just houses with no trees above 2m really.

If you can, what you should do is get hold of David Quirey and use his Photoreal buildings and put them with your scenery to make an awesome airport.

If you do an update; this scenery has the right autogen etc as there are no trees except for the pines in the driveway.

Whangarei, my Favourite little airport!

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

I did originally have a Rwy-12 terminal building there, but didnt like it.
In the photos i have from Google, and Airliners .net, and some taken by a friend up there, there are trees (including some pines) around the place. Also, a large number of houses are to be seen around the airport in the photos as well,..... more than the ones showing in my pics.
The trees on the driveway are Palms, NOT Pines.................... as in real life.
I have tried contacting David Quiery several times, but the e-mail addy i have for him is no longer active.
I would have loved to have used his buldings (with his permission) in the scenery. I have, however, used them in a version for myself.
The autogen is standard FS9, with the addition of the FScene 3 Asia, Australia, and New Zealand terrain texture set.
You can get the same results with the FREE Spring only texture set from FScene by Ruud Faber.
Iam also using the fabulous "Tree-X" FSX trees for FS9.
Real Environment Pro, and Ground Environment Pro place agn trees in front of hangers, and in some other awkward places that would need excludes created to remove them.
Those that dont like any aspect of the FREE scenery, please feel free to remove it from your sim...................

sorry, I meant to say palms.
Well it's a pity about David not responsing as his buildings are good but his runway and apron need improvment. I like your runway and apron much more

I need a bit of help here........

Problem 1.

For some time my Whangarei area has been a bit of a disaster. Having flown in and out of there for many years, I am fully aware that the tide comes up to both ends. In my case it doesn't and I have miles of fields with strange buildings on some of it. This has got nothing to do with Lawries handwork - this is an historic foul up of my own doing. I currently have installed the Red Baron Mesh at 75 metres. I also have NZ Lakes Fix 2002. I have a similar problem with Napier, i.e. encroaching LandMass. I have checked my FS9.cfg and the Terrain Max Vertex Level is correct at 19. Any useful comments ?

Problem 2.

I have installed Lawries new Whangarei and am missing the Main Terminal. I thought I had followed the Read Me's fairly well over the last 4 or 4 sceneries but clearly I am missing some files here. Most of the rest seems to be pretty OK, just the terminal. Can you define what Package (?) I need to install to display that building ?

One thing about this problem solving, it keeps the more mature bloke like me from relaxing and going senile. :P

Gudday Bazza,......

Problem 1......
Without a couple of screenies to see what you mean, i would only be making wild guesses as to whats causing what you describe at Whangarei. I see you have the freeware Red Baron 75m mesh, but do you have the payware Red Baron NZ Topo Scenery ?? If you DO have the Topo scenery, REMOVE the FS2002 Lakes fix !! It affects coastlines as well as lakes and rivers.

Problem 2.....
When you say you are missing the main terminal building, is it displayed as an untextured GREY building, or is there NOTHING there at all ??
Either way, i can think of a couple of answers for both, but need to know which of the above is happening........

Your not alone in that "more mature bloke" catagory,............. im there as well !!

Thanks Lawrie, I'll worry about the lack of water later.

Getting back to the terminal building, there's probably not much point in me posting a scenie showing nothing there. I have the control
tower and a gap thru to a pasenger bus - i.e. exactly no terminal, or as they say in Latin, nil terminus maximus.

Regards, Baz.

Ok Baz, that leads me to the following answers...............
If you have NO building at all (not even a grey untextured one), then i would suggest you may not have downloaded and installed "ez terminals ss " by Sidney Schwartz, and installed it into the Static Objects Library.
The only other alternative would be to check and make sure you have a file in Whangarei's "scenery" folder named
" NZWR_Term.bgl " . This file calls up the terminal from the Static Objects library.

Thanks Lawrie, all sorted........

I can see what I probably did wrong. In downloading the EZ Terminals.ss package for one of your previous, I put all the bmp's in but overlooked the BGL file itself. Whangarei now looks spot on - thanks again for your work, New Zealand scenery is now becoming so comprehensive I rarely go
overseas anymore.

Now getting back to my water level problems - do you feel that the TOPO program will assist this or is there some other hidden problem here. I'll try running without the NZ Lakes fix and see if that makes a difference but somehow don't see that making a difference. Regards, Baz.

Never heard of anyone doing a photoreal NZWR for FSX.
Only photoreal NZWR i know of is one for FS9 by David Quiery done about 3 years ago.

Hi Lawrie,
I might have a VOZ texture double up issue here . Can you please tell what textures these 2 buildings are so that I can look for them?

Many thanks
Steve
