Missing in Action

Postby Snowman » Sun Sep 02, 2018 9:50 pm

Hello there guys.
A lot of you have been wondering where i have dissapeared to over the last couple of years.....................
Well, to cut a long story short, ive been fighting a serious battle with cancer.
After quite a number of painful operations, it appears as though all has been removed, and i am in the clear.
The sad news is that one of the times i was in hospital for an operation, burglars removed every piece of electronic equipment from my home, which
included all 3 of my computers. They even removed every external hard drive and all the CDs and DVDs from my office at home.
I no longer have anything at all that was flightsim related.
There have been many changes to the flightsim world, and to FSX in my absence, and i am unsure whether i will go back to flightsim, or go back to building sceneries.
Some of the New Zealand stuff released in my absence is absolutely fabulous.
I havnt made any decisions about what im going to do as yet, but i would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all those that have supported my simple sceneries for FS9 and FSX over
the years, and those that have helped me out with some of the scenery work with objects, or photos,or encouragment.

Regards,

Lawrie.

Hell mate, good to see you back. I was wondering not that long ago what became of you....
Seeing as you're starting from scratch, why not jump to X-Plane?? We always need more quality NZ and Pacific airports there....

Lawrie, sorry to hear your news, happy to hear you are OK. Over the years I have installed and enjoyed many of your sceneries, in FS9 and FSX.
Aerofly FS2 is a whole new ballgame, and I think that is the future, rather than P3D. It's a bit like FS2004 - there is an active community developing tools to help ordinary users create scenery. I like it, but it wants a pretty beefy graphics card.
Good to see you back.

Lawrie I know the last few years have been tough, good to see you make an appearance here again.
As Mike says, AFS2 would be a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a sim not burdened with legacy baggage.
The 3rd party bits already available are excellent, and the community is tinkering with the tools available for homegrown stuff.
My hope is that Robin will produce the "Anchor Tenant" scenery which will flow into comprehensive NZ coverage the way it did for FS2004.
The basic ingredients are all there in the sim, and it is being grown by a quirky but very competent crew.

Picture if you will, this transplanted (from Switzerland) to NZ:

I was wondering as to your absence. So sorry to learn of your battle with the big C but glad to read that things are sorted.
The loss of all you had worked on must be gutting and question your faith in your fellow man.
Did you manage to claim on your lost hardware and possibly get at least one decent computer?
I jumped from FS9 to P3D. It is not perfect by any means. If version 5 comes with a new graphics engine (as has been mooted) then it will be quite something.
The other sims are excellent but just lack content or coverage, however that is rapidly changing.
I hope you can get back into making some of your great sceneries once again but understand that times have changed.
Keep well.
