I received an email from PMDG about their latest aircraft, the MD-11, which is priced at GBP 54.99. This converts to about 138 NZ$.

What do others think about this price? True, it must have taken a lot of development work, but when I see an aircraft add-on at over $100 then I tend to hesistate. Perviously in FS2004 days, I would read the reviews and often bought add-ons to try them out, but now with these sort of prices, I am just not buying. Perhaps I am living in the past, but it seems too expensive to me??

Comments please!!

smooth landings.

Well I have the MD-11 from PMDG and it is a very good product over all. What I like about PMDG products is the smooth fram rate and the accuracy of systems.
However, I got it through a special promotion through a retailer in Canada. I am not sure if I would pay that amount of money yet.

I suggest watch as many videos as you can on youtube about it. Read some reviews then you can decide if it is worth it for you or not.
Good luck smile.gif

I cringe at some of the prices for payware aircraft.

So far for FSX I have the PMDG 747, PMDG B1900D, Captain Sim C-130, Digital Aviation Cheyenne, Carenado Piper Arrow, Carenado Cessna 206 to name a few, and I've just bought the Wilco 737 Pilot in Command. They all add up, but sometimes there's an aircraft you just have to have in your collection.

There are heaps I would like right now, but with add ons that are currently over $100 (PMDG MD-11 and Captain Sim 727 for FSX to name a couple), I will just sit patiently and wait. Will have to get the Britten Norman Islander when it comes out though. That's going to be around $100 I believe.

I umm'd and aah'd about it for a couple of months then just bit the bullet and bought it from PMDG for USD80 - about NZD130. Expensive, but very nice.

Bigbird, why did you choose the wilco 737 instead of the pmdg 737 ? I had a test fly in it and loathed the way the throttles were dancing around, a quick look at the support forum suggested that's just the way it is with the wilco ... so I went with the pmdg pedigree. That's one case where I believe I really do get what I pay for.

Cheers
Gary

Perhaps I should add that I previously bought the PMDG 737 for FS2004, but when I see an add-on aircraft at around $138, I just think that the price is over the top. There are some other GREAT aircraft add-ons which are far cheaper than this and I cannot bring myself to pay so much for a single aircraft add-on.

I am watching the replies with a lot of interest, to see if it is me out of touch with reality, or whether add-ons ARE getting too expensive. Perhaps this will become a poll topic???

Smooth landings.

PMDG products as very well done and satisfying to fly.
However I am quite happy with PSS 777 and Dash8-Q300 as well.

Chairman, I bought the Wilco 737 as I was after something with a bit more realism than the default 737 and I wanted the 300 model. I'm using FSX, so still waiting for the 737NG to come out. I will have her as soon as she is released thumbup1.gif
