Kiwi Hudson

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

I've been doing a few Hudsons lately (no, I haven't forgotten the P-47), and came across another kiwi bird, NZ2083:

The profile showed a red/white/blue roundel, but shouldn't that be blue/white/blue? Any ideas?

Hi Jan

Red, white , blue is correct for the earlier (all?) Hudsons in RNZAF service - blue, white, blue came later - actually I dont think I have seen Hudsons with the blue, white, blue roundel - only Venturas...looking good in any case.

Thats a MKIII mid 42/43 , I believe the Pacific camo and roundels applied later on the MK5 and on MK6 later in the war as Navigation escorts and course maritime patrol . Course as DSB has shown us the mosts MK5/6 s were attached to training . Markings for this a/c was no2 squadron and was a 5 .

I think that you have got the WUH around the wrong way shouldn't it be UHW

UH of course for No2 .. the aircraft code W was adjusted to suit the unique shape and glazed fixtures of the fuselage . In fact 2 aircraft carried these codes but being destroyed early in it career

here's the other side of the aircraft, where it says UH-W

I missed the small letters in front of the 24 on the nose, I wonder what they say?

Here's a few more progress shots, I've added the construction number, and changed the type of the squadron codes. I made it UH-W on one side and W-UH on the other, I have not found a pic of the port side of the aircraft. Maybe one of you has something. It seems both systems were used on Hudsons, I chose this one. Happy so far?

Non of the Hudsons in NZ are airworthy - unfortunately most had the wings torched off through the main spar, inboard of the engines. To get one back in the air would (among other things) require a new main spar which runs from engine to engine, through the fuselage. Not impossible, but.....

Hi folks I am new to the FlightSim world and found this forum through looking for info on the Hudson with the images above . I have a photo of it (NZ 2083 UH W and possibly NZ2046 UH M) if people are interested, I just need to know how to post it here. Can anyone help? I have the image on Flickr. smile.gif
Also what is a good Flightsim to start off with, lol being an aircraft refueler in the RNZAF I am not much on the play with flying yet, but hope to at least get off the ground.
Cheers

Hi Michelle ... and a big *welcome* to NZFF!!! New_Zealand_etc.gif

I'm not sure if you can embed links from Flickr so that the pics appear here <anyone?>. You can post a link to the pic on Flickr itself using the "insert link" icon, which will produce code like so:

Code: Select all
like so

For getting pics to appear here, I find something like Photobucket (also free) a lot easier. There's a pinned topic somewhere on NZFF about posting images, so try a quick search.

As to which flight sim ... not easy ... depends on the spec of your system - and also whether to want a military style sim where you can engage in combat of some kind (eg. IL-2, Falcon AF etc.) or stooge about in a more peaceful way and learn navigation or general aviation procedures, in which case MS FS9 or FSX is the only thing to consider. Don't even *dare* to look at XPlane.

They're about to launch (Mar 24th) "Cliffs of Dover" - the latest in the IL-2 product line for WWII, Battle of Britain.
