A2As Republic P47 Thunderbolt .. The New Zealand Connection cool.gif , I have stood on the wing , looked and marveled . many fighter pilots said .... a fighter !

In its time , the largest fighter around , it was said ...you could run around inside the cockpit from the emery bullets.. it was big for its time, compared to a Spitfire

The only New Zealand connection was this aircraft given to the MOTAT .. when ? .. but now gone early 90s to Australia , she would be the last of the Razorbacks .

Now a memory , I hope, no our 'Jan' JanKee's could do her justice and bring it back to life , you see many chats and asks bout Cessna's, Pipers, Beech's.. blo them !

Well, that certainly looks doable, I'll give it a go.
Do you want it fully wrecked and weathered like this, or slightly better, more as she would have looked when still flying in New Guinea?

I remember standing next to this aircraft when I worked at the Air Force Museum at Wigram. It was Huge. It was in pretty bad condition. The wings had been temporarily patched up, but they had used galvanised steel and it was reacting with the aluminium (you could grab handfulls of the main wing spars - they were just crumbling to pieces). It was given to the RNZAF Museum by MOTAT for restoring the Mosquito wing. It was then sold to Rob Greinert in Aussie as part of the deal for the Sopwith Pup replica. It would be great to see one flying again.

Doesnt look like its had much done to it for a while, but it does appear that he has 3 jugs to restore.

Here you go: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?loc=...mp;FileID=13933

This is the 'new' version, the really weathered MOTAT version isn't ready yet.

Hmmm ... I smell a KNIGHTHOOD looming!!! laugh.gif

I have a cunning plan ... we have another one of our famous NZFF "dig out your cheque-book" sessions ... and we invite Jan over next summer (all expenses paid) ... arm him with a car, a digital camera and a schedule of all the NZ air shows and static displays ... winkyy.gif
