Hi guys,

What are the best freeware files for a fighter jet, Hughes 500E helicopter and a GA float plane? Could you pleae post links?

Fighter Jet:

Must have VC and ability to drop bombs. Also look very sleek and aerodynamic.

500E

Must also have VC, will be flying it around Glacier Bay and Fiordland (with alot of landings) so must be relatively easy to fly.

Float Plane

Must be a good bush plane and preferably "dirty" and "damaged" textures if possible.

Thanks alot, Scotty B.

I have the following suggestions -
500e available here but a search on AVSIM will return other variants of the base Nemeth Brothers version. Any are excellent.

For the Float plane I use the Bellanca Scout which comes with ski, float, tundra tyre and standard doesn't have dirty option though. Also available from AVSIM here

Try also searching Milton Shupe at Avsim..great freware Bush type planes...he has a nice Beech 18 on floats ....not a float plane though but he also has an Aero Commander which is very dirty....theres also the Maule at FSnordic.

Dont know of any freeware fighters that drop bombs ...the freeware section 8 Sabre fires its cannon and drops its drop tanks ...the payware VRS F-18E fires all its weapons.......

I use the Scout in Fiordland and Glacier Bay with no frame rate problems and a lot of guys would have a better system than mine. I only have a 7100GS graphics card though my CPU is reasonable.

As far as jets I can't locate the link I had at the mo, but look on AVSIM for the F15 Coral package or there is a good F16 on there as well. If you locate a nice jet you could always add the Rocket effects as a seperate file which are available. I added rockets to a A4 Skyhawk and it does the job. eg shows explosion on the ground complete with fire.

Thanks for all of that Bandit. Sounds good to me. I have put the Maule M7 pack (tundra, floats, ski's etc) back on my flight sim. I had a couple of years ago and i'd forgotten how fantastic it was!!!

Bandit, what add-ons do you have in terms of scenery in NZ? Are you running default airports or add-on's? How does you PC cope with frame rates generally?

I'm happy enough with the Frame rates. Could always be better of course and once I get a better GPU things should improve. I do have a AMD 4600 duo CPU and 3 gb of RAM so I get by OK.

I have all of Robins sceneries, FScene textures plus a lot of the freeware scenery files. Haven't got around to getting Snowmans huge work effort yet. As far as bush sceneries, I make my own using EZ Scenery and AFCAD builder. There's some screenshots of some of them in the Multiplayer forum for missions a created for our old Friday night fly ins quite a way back. I'll try and locate the link.

Mission brief and screenshots

F-16 over the Manawatu Gorge

It's got great visibility from the VC. Wharite dead ahead with Ashhurst down on the left. Can't quite see Ronwests house. tongue.gif

Skyhawk flight around Waiouru Army training area. I started repainting this but have never got around to finishing it. One day I'll get on with it.
Rocket launch. Burning scrub in the background from an earlier run.

Impact - sorry not the best screenshot I should have really got a close in shot for you.

Result - three nice little bits of real estate on fire. These disappear after a few minutes.

Heading home for a cold one. Ruapehu in the background

The rocket effect can be added to any aircraft. It's not the flashest eg you don't actually see a rocket but you do see the fire from where the engine would be. The impacts flash and then burn for a few minutes. But it adds a nice touch.

Nope not the RAZBAM. This one's a freeware TA-4J.

I started repainting it using FS Repaint.

Ito's I think from memory but don't quote me on that. I can't recall where I got it. Flightsim.com I think.

Here ya go Rocket Effect

It is part way down the page. Labelled as FS2002 Rocket Effects but it works fine in FS9. The site is FSPlanet but it may be available elsewhere. Can't remember if this is where I got it but it is the same file and author.

You can also get a cool FSX weapons pack from Avsim...just search for "Weapons pack".. Again they can be added to any aircraft, though you do so by editing a saved flight :/ It includes bombs rockets and a number of missiles. They have visible models, smoke effects, etc and I believe that they also have explosion effects as well...Theres also a number of cannon effect downloads on Avsim - just grabbed the one thats tailored for the RealAir Spitfire, to see how it looks... which have firing effects, tracers, smoke and ejected shell casings...
