Hey Emanuel,

I'm a FS2004 flyer and have only done paints for that, looks like you may be on FSX? Check the following thread out, seems like you need to convert the DDS files to BMPs which you can edit with anything you like (Paintbrush, Photoshop, Gimp etc), then you probably convert them back to DDS again when you're finished:

In that thread they mention a tool called DDStoBMP, I've been using DXTBmp which you can also use to do the conversion.
Check this thread out here at NZFF too for lots of repaint tips and links.

I have found one. but i have also realised that it is alot of work. Ive made copies and converted the copies into JPEG, but I have realised... I have no idea what im really doing. Do you think it would kill the game if i were to do some experiments and then run it in FSX?

I am now looking for a "layer" showing all the rivets and joins, but nothing else, that i can use for the Cessna C172SP Skyhawk, or the Beechcraft Baron 58

Can't help you on finding a layer, but I do believe there are paintkits around for these birds, check avsim and the like. I've found that a good paintkit has all these things and makes life a lot easier. You'll need a program that support layers, and if it has to be freeware, try the GIMP: http://www.gimp.org/
Note however that the default aircraft are not very good to repaint as some of the textures are mirrored on both sides of the aircraft, so you'll get weird letters...
For more info on repainting, and lots of tutorials, fonts and other things, look here: http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/

Good luck!
