Now I realise that from the title you're probably thinking 'oh great, another person having problems with afterburners', actually, this is a strange and crazy request I thought I'd throw out there
Is there any way whatsoever to somehow get afterburners on a 747?
I've looked at other websites and looked all over the web but nothing I have looked at quite fulfills my needs dry.gif
So I was wondering if any experts would be able to help me with this, with things like what to do with .cfg files, what files I need etc
Looking forward to what you all have to say

i had a quick look at the difference with the two inputs of cfg ,the f18
[TurbineEngineData]
fuel_flow_gain = 0.006 //Gain on fuel flow
inlet_area = 4.2895 //Square Feet, engine nacelle inlet area
rated_N2_rpm = 16728 //RPM, second stage compressor rated value
static_thrust = 11000 //Lbs, max rated static thrust at Sea Level
afterburner_available = 6 //Afterburner stages available?
afterburner_throttle_threshold = 0.80 //Percent of throttle range where a/b begins

reverser_available = 0 //Thrust reverser available?
ThrustSpecificFuelConsumption = 0.81 //Thrust specific fuel consumption (Jets)
AfterBurnThrustSpecificFuelConsumption = 1.74 //TSFC with afterburn/reheat engaged

then the 747-
[TurbineEngineData]
fuel_flow_gain = 0.002 //Gain on fuel flow
inlet_area = 60.0 //Square Feet, engine nacelle inlet area
rated_N2_rpm = 29920 //RPM, second stage compressor rated value
static_thrust = 56750 //Lbs, max rated static thrust at Sea Level
afterburner_available = 0 //Afterburner available?
reverser_available = 1 //Thrust reverser available?
ThrustSpecificFuelConsumption = 0.40
not 100% sure this is part that will do it but there are the inputs there to try ,all you have to do is open the cfg in notepad and change the lines where you think back up the cfg before the changes just so you can always go back to normal ..

also these cfg examples are from FSX accel and i found the effect of afterburners in the effect folder ,if you where in FS9 you would need the effect from a aircraft that has it and do the same entrys from the cfg of both etc ...
hope this helps alittle in your quest ..

Thanks for the reply creator, but I might not have heard myself right tongue.gif , basically what I need is mainly just help on a good afterburner and how to apply it to the plane, any possible help on this?

Yup well id download a freeware plane or one you mite have around "with a afterburner ofcourse "and change the lines from one cfg to the other ie like the 747 from lets say in my case the f18 from acceleration then just make the same entry lines with the afterburner entrys into the same lines in the 747 [turbineenginedata] and just make sure the effect is in the effects folder that came with the freeware aircraft or the one you are using it from ,,just like a gauge i would do the same think but in the panel cfg, i can take one from one aircraft and put it in other by just the simple line entry and saving the cfg out i say this would be similar sort of stuff ..

trial and error and backing up before you change anything in the cfg ,

lol, its just a thought that I thouht would be cool to carry out, plus I'm also planning on doing an airshow video, and I thought that British Airways could display their 'faster, louder, but same old' 747.
The actual effect I am looking for coming out of the engines are like the burners on this vid

But unforetunately I'm still having no luck sad.gif

New request, could somebody just give me a sample of what would need to be typed in on the aircraft.cfg is possible? I figured that knowing this would beat randomly guessing what to put in for the burners

Try putting the red sections from here: (section of the default Accel F18 cfg)

Into the corresponding parts of the default 747 cfg:

Tried it and unfortunately still no luck sad.gif
Any other takers on what is becoming a mammoth task it would appear?

Visual effects are often done in the lights section of aircraft.cfg
You could copy some from an existing model e.g. F-15 model f-15upfw.zip below,
install the appropriate effects, and adjust the position of the burners to suit, with a bit of trial and error

[lights]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation

yadayada....
light.11= 6, -22.7, -2.2, -0.3, fx_F14_Burn1 ,
light.12= 6, -22.7, -2.2, -0.3, fx_F14_Burn2 , // Eng1 Afterburner Burn2
light.13= 6, -25.0, -2.2, -0.3, fx_F14_Burnerflame , // Eng1 Afterburner Flame
light.14= 7, -22.7, 2.2, -0.3, fx_F14_Burn1 , // Eng2 Afterburner Burn1
light.15= 7, -22.7, 2.2, -0.3, fx_F14_Burn2 , // Eng2 Afterburner Burn2
light.16= 7, -25.0, 2.2, -0.3, fx_F14_Burnerflame , // Eng2 Afterburner Flame
light.17= 6, -22.0, -2.2, 0.0, fx_F14_Blueflame , // Eng1 Blueflame,
light.18= 7, -22.0, 2.2, 0.0, fx_F14_Blueflame , // Eng2 Blueflame,

Ok but what does each number actually mean, is it like placement of the burners? So like how far left and right and how far ahead and back?

PostPosted: Wed Sep 24, 2008 9:36 am
by creator2003
Yup thats right it is placement numbers like how many degs this way that way etc... myself would look at the engine placement numbers or where thrust etc placement is and work from there as im pretty sure if you have four engines there will be somewhere where these would have these entry numbers ,,then its trying to get the effects attached to the end points of the engines ..,
if i was you i would also save a flight at the speed just before afterburn this will make it easier testing each time you make the change ..in FSX you can go out pick another AC then make the changes to the one you are using then reload that aircraft again and the changes are made and seen real time without having to restart the sim each time ...something that always got on my wick with FS9 as you reload the sim about 50 million times a day testing

Right ok I get that point now, any estimates on where to start for the placement?

[GeneralEngineData]
engine_type= 1
Engine.0= -107.600, -69.500, 0.000
Engine.1= -78.110, -39.167, -7.000
Engine.2= -78.110, 39.167, -7.000
Engine.3= -107.600, 69.500, 0.000
fuel_flow_scalar= 0.9676
min_throttle_limit=-0.319946

Should I copy these engine numbers and then work on them from there then?
(p.s. sorry that I'm asking a million questions, I really don't have a clue how this works tongue.gif )

It's worth a shot eh. If it doesn't work out straight away you could always get tweaking (see Charl's post for which numbers mean what winkyy.gif).
