Hey fellow nzffer's, I thought I'd do a topic asking what are your favorite WW2 planes? I know there's been alot of simular topics like this in the past, but I thought it would be cool just to see what kind of aviation fan's we have out there.

Now I thought it would go a bit like this as, it's pretty much impossible to have a single plane that you like the most, so I've put mine in order from 1/10 (1 being the best). Here are mine:

no.11 p-47
no.10 B-17
no.9 Avro Lancaster
no.7 Junkers ju-87 stuka (a true classic)
no.6 bf-110 (i seem to have a bit of soft spot for them)
no.5 hawker hurricane
no.4 Super Marine spitfire
no.3 p-40
no.2 bf-109 (I know but it's a classic ww2 fighter
no.1 p-38

PS, you don't have to have 11 it can be any amount you want.

thanks,
Kieran

3. B-17-guns for Africa
4. P40- Powerhorse GRRRRRR
5. Corsair-Who doesn't like seagull wings
6. Dauntless- Love the rear gunner-IL2 freak!
7. Nakajima Ki-43 - just looks fearsome

9. Heinkel 111 - Simply beautiful
10. Junkers Ju-87 Stuka - I'm with you on that keiran- just a beautiful plane.

Nice choice kiwibarguy.I can't think of a better aircraft during ww2 that was more suited for it's roll than the stuka I mean yeah so what it was easy to shot
down but I mean it's so graceful when it dives down it's like a eagle sweeping down on it's prey.

From the other side off the Pacific , Alister picks the Fairey Swordfish , now that would be one scary plane to go into combat in .. theres a brilliant doco at Utube , Sink the Bismark 7/8 parts but puts the spotlight on this amazing allmost WW1 type .

Sitting .... Waiting .... Who was going to put the Martin B-26 Marauder in their list ... Finally cool.gif Chopper_nut .. and some may say requires rotors to keep it up ... the shape , nacelle design and its sporty looks , This is my number 1 , guess the history has a lot to do with my choice , but the 26 for the period and a speedy ground attack using its 4 X .5 brownings .

Oh jeez, so many to choose from, none in any perticular order: Spitfire mk 9, P-40, P-51D, Mossie, Avenger, Yak-3, P-38, Hurricane, B-24, Lancaster, there are probably lots more I can't think of right now.

Edit: Of course I can't forget the wonderful little J-3 Cub! C'mon, it won in the last dogfight of the European part of the war!

I guess the topic being "favourite" the Mitsubishi A6M Zero wouldn't rate too highly in anyone's list.
But it was a brilliant aircraft, in the early years of the Pacific War, dogfighting one of those, in any other aircraft, had only one outcome

Yeah but we must remember that it was a stolen design from Howard Hughes, and once it was captured, the US knew who to defeat it.
