Polikarpov I-153 Project

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby Ace » Tue May 06, 2008 2:25 pm

Would anyone like a half-decent I-153 for Flight Sim?

I'm currently learning how to use GMAX to develop a Polikarpov I-153 Chaika for Flight Sim.
Hopefully it'll turn out alright when I'm done (It's going to take some time!) :D .

Today I had a bit of a muck round using GMAX to see how I could to tackle certain aspects of the Chaika (E.g the bent wings at the top).

Heres some pics of a quick 5-minute draft:

And heres another quick play around plane I made from a tutorial:

Is there anyone that has made any aircraft in GMAX who could give me any tips or great tutorial sites?
If so, any feedback/help would be greatly appreciated.

Mate, pull this one off and theres gonna be a few people humpin your leg!

Cant say I'm any good at 3d modelling (I made a square in GMAX once, but somehow couldn't quite get it to make a cube...) So, if you need pics or just some cheering from the sidelines - sign me up :)

I use FSDS rather than GMAX, but try Freeflightdesignshop as it covers both.

there are some good videos i found lastnight that show not in high detail but enough to see abit on how its all done .. this is shown with cars but could applie the technic of modeling aircraft..
try 2d linetools and extrudes modifiers this mite help shaping things ..

I'm working on a static display for the FSX Warbirds Over Wanaka, which will hopefully include the I-153 and I-16. If they work out all right, I might go all the way and make 'em flyable.

Looking good!

Um, no major progress on my behalf on a Polikarpov I-153, I've just been slowly learning the techniques etc in Gmax involved in aircraft design (specificly GOOD aircraft design).

But toprob, go all the way!

Oh, and in reguards to the IL2 Sturmovik model, its fine and all proportional (and pretty good I might add), but cannot be ported over to FS or anything like that, plus there is probably copyright issues where it belongs to Maddox Games and Ubisoft.
