Though there are loads of repaints of AI models for 'heavy' airliners that service NZ, there doesn't seem to be a one-stop website that lists or maintains an index of the current local fleet, from where you can source information about and download filenames for variations of the base models and repaints.
Is there one that anyone knows of? And if not do you think it would be useful to create and maintain one. I've attached a screen-shot following (don't worry about design etc at this stage :-) and a link to a slightly more interactive demo version listing some Fruit Stand and AI Aardvark models as samples of what might be listed.
After tracking interesting threads like "The Frog Airside Photos" its clear that the active fleet in NZ is fairly dynamic. This index could be stored in a database and managed by the NZ FS community over time. Clearly there are enough industry people here that have a great knowledge of movements and changes in fleets, both now and in the past and it'd be great to harness that.
Theoretically one could select a point in time and have the system dynamically generate a set of Aircraft and FlightPlan files that would be representative of schedules from that period, you could then compile them yourself with TTools.
Another cool feature would be generating user configurable FlightPlans (along the lines yRoute but much simpler) where you could specify which aircraft you'd like to appear but not have to specify exactly when. The website could generate a totally fictitious schedule that would ensure you get to see your favourite airliners at your favourite airports at some time.
I guess there could be issues over who gets to promote models and repaints, and where they can be sourced from, but I spose as long as the d/l links are to popular sites like avsim.com and flightsim.com we should be ok (tho it seems you cant link to flightsim directly coz of their web session stuff)
Glad to have the idea shot down as it will clearly save me hours of work, but also happy to look at collaboratively scoping and building something to support this if there's a niche to be filled that isn't already met by something existing.
Whadyaz reckon?
