New Warbirds DC-3 Repaint

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby ardypilot » Thu Feb 01, 2007 9:08 pm

This is a repaint that has been begging to be done for quite a while, the new old colours of our beloved ZK-DAK for the default FS9 DC-3!

Here is a shot of the top half:

And the bottom half (Thanks Jon):

I already have the silver and white base painted, so if someone could please add all the decals and text, please reply here and I will send you what I have done so far!

Cheers!

That'll be Trolly's favourite default FS9 DC-3.
Here's a thought: does this aircraft not permit painting the fin correctly?
And would that not be able to be ported to FSX??

Cheers, thanks a million Jon!

Here is the texture file to work from (and for anyone else who wants a half white DC3): http://uploadhut.com/view.php/350565.bmp note1- this file will only stay on this sever for 30 days from now. note2- this file needs to be renamed 'Douglas_DC3_1_T.bmp'

It was for the FS9 default version, not sure how you go about turning it into a FSX skin, sorry :?:

Its the same skin Trolly, the DC3 is one of a few models that featured in FS9, just the model and features got upgraded. I'll do a bmp then people can apply it to whatever version of FS they want to run it in.

yeah that was a great repaint but when you compare with photos it needs a couple of touch ups in places but still a great job

I'll stick with the new scheme, Trolly has done a fine job of the other. I hope a few people have a go, be interesting to see how people approach the skin and what's important for them as painters, is it photo based etc.

Thanks, yeah I did realise that and made two revamped versions of the original texture set (that appear on the front of the REAL NZ Wanaka case) making it look old and shabby. There are a few limitiations to the paintkit, such as the extension of the white and black lines on the underside of the flaps, but feel free to modify it in anyway you please.

when you compare with photos

There is a recent photo of ZK-DAK included in the zip, in its tired tatty looking state just before it was repainted. I tried to match it as best as possible but if you would like some more photos, I have heaps ;)

Yes and no. Yes it will because its the same skin, no because it will need to be overlayed onto the new FSX skin to utilise bump maps etc. No point putting an FS9 skin into an upgraded FSX aircraft and not get the benefits.

hey trolley when you compare your repaint with the real aircraft photos you will see that the bit that needs a touch up is at the back where the black and white stripes are there should be a gap in the middle where the red numbers are written but on ur repaint they are written to the left of the black and white stripes on the left hand side of the aircraft but still an awsome repaint it has been one that has been needed to be done for ages and no one had done it except you

Ah yep, good spotting, I had forgotten about that!

By the way, for the new paint Jon, as the tail fin is mirrored, why not just do it all apart from the writing? That way it will be as close as possible to the real livery, and won't look messey from the right hand side...

Nope, I never said that. I just acknowledged the fact that the writing is in the wrong place on the back of the fuselage which you pointed out, and if you want to, you can fix it up for yourself.

I don't really want any further versions of the old livery for myself, that is why I posted a request for the new version here ;)
